    Use-of-Username Alerts

After reading through years of material in the Professional, off-Topic, and The Ring sub-forums, I'd like to put forward a suggestion. There are many threads, that are used as a second attempt to reach a member. Is it possible to have it, that when the member's full name is used, it should alert them via PM to check out the thread? For example, if someone were to type "EMT-BLS" in its entirety, it should send me a PM saying something like, "Your username has been mentioned by user*****". Obviously, I don't mean it should be forced on members, just that it should be a option, just like subscribing to threads. Anyone second the motion?

You would need a vBulletin mod for that. Also the mod might not exist.

Yes, but if someone knows your username, then, why can't they just send you a PM?

I would NOT want this option... I would get a PM everytime someone wanted to "pimp" their ride or talked about "Pimp" Pods!

Plus, if someone wanted to play hard to find, they'd simply turn the option off. I do believe there's a "Email member" option. I know there was on phpbb.

    That's why I suggested a on/off option.

I'm not referring to using this an attempt to contact those that don't want to be contacted, I'm asking about its use in a new thread, to bring a specific user's attention to it, without PM'ing them.

It sounds like you want to replicate the "tagging" system of Facebook, no?

It's an interesting idea, I'll add it to the list of features to look into... I do have the gut feeling that it won't be possible.
