2007 Ford Taurus POV- Finished! Picture Heavy

Ok, my last install thread sucked. Plain and simple. I thought I was awesome and did a good job but I now realize how crappy I did before.

    Vehicle: 2007 Ford Taurus
Affiliation: Vol. Fire / Medical Responder
Travel time to station: 6-8 minutes through city

After seeing a lot of professional installs from members (both who do it professionally and personally) I have come to the conclusion that what I have now is neither efficient nor safe.
I sat down for days working out a wiring layout and a parts list.
Finally, this week I started obtaining all my parts and building my work of art.

    Current equipment being powered:
    (1) Whelen 295SL100 (hidden behind dash and in radio mode)
    (1) 300w Power inverter
    Front:
    (1) Microman G3 12'' bar (grill)
    (2) Whelen TIR3 (lower bumper at 45*)
    (1) Whelen Dual Talon w/red lens (behind RVM)
    (1) Whelen UHFPOS (Headlight flasher)
    (2) Strobe tubes in HL (may move to turn signal position)
    Rear:
    (1) Quad Interior Visor light (from Tom at Advanced Warning, see review in equipment reviews)
    (2) Whelen TIR3 (in rear side corner windows. Unfortunately amber, I haven't replaced them with red yet)
    (2) Strobe tubes in reverse lights

Need ideas on where to put these guys. I have 2. They are the flashing version at 150 fpm.

Here is the final install videos. Below that is the progressive install process.

    Switches to front and side.

Power inverter, scanner, and minitor base.
    b3de0358.mp4 video by dj_acoustica - Photobucket

Most of the component parts gathered together

    Staring to assemble the components

Orienting that monster of a strobe unit was my least favorite part. It takes up so much space!

Every little bit of progress counts!

As you can see, each "zone" is color coated (Front, Rear, Strobe, Airhorn/PA)

    Barrier strips are your friend....

100 lb, heavy duty, ball bearing shelf rails. Getting closer.

Attached the brackets after cutting and bending. Sorry for not being in focus.

    Doing some measuring and adjusting.

Poor car. He probably feels like I'm abusing him.

    Before installation.

Just a few rivets partially in to make sure everything is lined up.

    All the rivets are in!

    Yay! All installed.

Wires all routed. Came through hollow space under seat to center console.

Location of switches as soon as they come in.

Breakout point for all rear lights (behind seat).

Antenna coax from hole mount in center of trunk run along trunk wiring harness.

    Switches all wired up.

If you are not opposed to removing your hard work: you could now paint or somehow coat the wood, and then reattach the components to get a very clean look.

That is a very good idea. I think I will do that. The holes ate all drilled so it's just a matter of unscrewing. It will all stay together nicely.
    Thanks!

A roll on bed liner, or similar textured paint may be the best. It will not blemish or chip very easily, and will give a clean, professional look. I like your wiring.

It's something I may get into when I come back from basic training and tech school.
The other thread can be found by searching for 2007 ford Taurus. It's the first result that comes up.

Making great progress man!!! Its awesome to see someone taking their time and doing it right... For the tray, I personally would use some automotive carpet for it, but thats just me... regardless, it looks good!!!

Please expand on that. Do you foresee a benefit in using carpeting versus bed liner?

No real pros/cons about it... Just that with it carpeted, it will blend into the truck better, because you can most likely get the same exact color carpet to match your trunk carpet...

I like the idea. I will compare pricing and availability of each for my area. Thanks, friend!

No prob... I've seen Automotive Carpeting at WalMart and Auto Zone... The bedliner should be at the same places... lol Good luck!

Why not go with LED HAWs instead of a strobe pack? (I'm assuming thats what its for) They put out just as much or more light and there's no big pack to worry about. You'd could probably cut your mounting surfact down by 1/4 as well plus an LED will outlast a strobe tube.

This will be the route I go when I get back from basic training and tech shool. I will have a little more income then and time to enjoy my setup

    Updated!

I get my Carling switches in the mail today. I'm excited. I just need a couple of feet of 8 gauge power wire to go from breaker under hood to switches.
I need to add a couple of gaskets and seal all holes.
And I need to route all of my individual lights.

I can taste victory, and it is sweet!

    Thanks!

The purple wire is a 16/4 wire from a network supply store. Only place I could find 16 or 14 gauge for under $1 a foot. ($0.60 for purple wire)
everything else would have been too big anyway. Not a lot of room in the Taurus.

Bought it at a local store here in Goldsboro called Network Supply.

Outdoorspeakerdepot.com is a really good resource. As well as cablestogo.com or grainger.com

Nice layout. Just a suggestion you should put grommets in those holes. Or at least use wire loom. Vibrations can wear away the jacket and cause a short.

I have. Both in the floor and the firewall. I showed it before I got to that point. There just wasn't any way to feed them all with a grommet in the way. Good observation though!

Well, I'm 99% done now. All I have left is cosmetic issues and details. Everything works awesome except my strobes. They worked...and now nothing. All fuses are intact and grounds are good. I will have to I more investigating in the daytime.
Pictures to follow in the AM.
