I'm in the hunterdon area. When my cousin heard that my truck had lights on it he's like, "you should see this one dude by us. He has an str8 with more lights than a cop car". Haha he lives in your area, figured this had to be the one he was talking about.

I have to say it wasnt bad at all for the job it does, but i did switch out to a little more expensive light bar (Star/SVP starburst Bar) like $200 more but way thinner and doesnt clutter up my windshield. The size is pretty much the reason i switched but the new one has lights at an angle to capture intersection as well. Worth it in my opinion.

Thanks all! Siren in NJ is only reserved for chief and deputy chief, all others are allowed the horn function only. I never used the siren responding (since its illegal), but i picked up the whole unit/setup pretty much for free from a family member who is in an officer, better alternative than dishing out all the money for a brand new air horn/speaker combo.

since when can NJ run any type of electronic horn? as far as I know sirens/air horns are only allowed on captain/chiefs pov's not to mention 90% o the volunteers in NJ have illegal light setups......

Since when can a captain have a siren? What constitutes an illegal setup in NJ?

jealous...you are on a forum centered around emergency lighting, are you really surprised that some people exceed the lights allotted by law? As far as i'm concerned, as long as the lights are used responsibly and okay with your department and police, then it is a non issue if you don't follow the letter of the law exactly. And illegal use of an air horn? Whoa, that is just begging for an unnecessary honking summons...

It also says chiefs can only have two temporary mount magnet beacons. This is because the law was written in the 1970s when having more than two lights was unreasonable. Its just an out of date law, thats all. In modern times, you can have 6 lights, and still not have enough to be safe. I have never heard of anyone giving someone a hard time for not having two magnet mount teardrops on their roof. Why is it that firefighters/emts are given a hard time, but the towtrucks can tons of amber, red, and clear lights with no problems. Do us a favor and give them shit before you give it to the actual emergency personnel.
