Why does NYPD have to put lights on everything that is motorized that they own? Why does a building maintenance vehicle need lights?

Just in case it needs to be used for enforcement or and emergency response. Just the other day I saw about 10 officers get out of a school safety van, they were real cops, guns and all.

Why would they have janitors driving a marked cruiser? Our service dept guys will take out cars in from the sub station to the garage for service, and have to put these huge "out of service" magnets over the decals, to avoid people thinking its a badge and gun behind the wheel.

LOL LOL Building maintenance section arent janitors. These are police officers who do construction and repairs inside of department buildings. Everything from Eelevator repair/maintenance to fixing boilers, putting up or tearing down walls. Ive seen them with Ford E-series vans and recently have new Sprinters. Never seen a pick up truck before but who knows. Its a huge department with alot of different needs.

Not to mention quartermaster too. Plus not all BMS vehicles have lights.

If it really is for building maintenance my only guess would be that they want to look like they have a bigger presence than they do. Same reason they painted their traffic and auxillary cars the same color.

Homeland Security Spending = the Solyndra of the Public Safety Industry.
We the willing, led by the unknowing; have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have been doing so much for so long with so little; we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Yea, you might want to check. Building Maint. Section is a 3 letter code, that looks like only 2. Maybe another division...

Not too long ago saw a BMS f-450 i believe (ESU truck style) Was looking pretty new, and still functional, must have been retired from ESU and instead of condeming it got transfered to BMS> Saw the big 1 foot tall POLICE across the back and then on the side saw BMS lol

I understand that to a point, but I have seen NYPD forklifts with full size ligthbars. Come to think of it about the only NYPD motorized vehicle I have yet to see with lights on it would be motorized wheelchairs.

Since 2010, there has not been a full size Dodge pick up. Chrysler Corp. gave the full size trucks their own brand, Ram. If you go to the Dodge web page, there are no trucks in the line up, only cars, cross overs and SUV's. There is a link for www.ramtrucks.com where you will find only trucks, no cars, crossover's or SUV's.

They'll always be Dodges as far as I'm concerned. I'll call the brand Ram as soon as I'll call the Sears Tower the Willis Tower. These are Dodge trucks.
