Dekalb zCounty GA is running this concenpt with Rosenbauer. They ran into a huge problem b/c they old ambulances didn't require a Commercial license to drive. Their policy is they wouldn't allow the females to drive the engines,. Rescues, Towers. Well then the male medics were in the back with a patient they ran into the problem of having no one to drive the truck. So they had to change their policy to allow the female officers to hold CDL's and drive the trucks. I maybe off a little off on the policy but that is the just of it. Dekalb runs those and everyone I have talked to loves them. IOf they are first in, then they automatically send a second one, in case that one gets committed to pumping.

No department in their right mind would open themselves to the sexual discrimination lawsuits by implying that a female couldn't drive a fire engine based on her sex. I'm afraid you got some bad information, brother.

I wonder how the firefighters appreciate maneuvering around the stretcher everytime they enter and exit the rig.

It wa all created b/c they run their own ambulances that are labeled Dekalb County but are staffed by a private company. the trucks are maintained by the county. Well the private service wouldn't allow females to have the CDL's and then when the county purchased the commercial chassis trucks the firm had to either let females have CDL's or re-evulate. It was a very confusing situiation but was all int he news for a while, couple years ago.
