mother of god!
SAT. That pulling up to a scene, pretty well says were not messing around.
No Dude!!! the absolute wierdest, ugliest patrol ever was the 1976 AMC Ambassadors used by the Sheriff's Office here...big ass bubble lights...laughing stock of the state...if I can find a picture of one I will post it.
PSP Surveillance Truck. The camper part is removable.

I don't regularly upfit anymore, too much hassle.
That surveillance truck should blend in nicely in rural areas. I don't think I'd want to be the one sitting in the back for extended periods of time, looks a bit on the cramped side.
Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean that you should do it.

Haven't posted here in a while but I happened upon a car this weekend that fits with this thread, at least in the "odd" sense.
2009-2011 Nissan Sentra, Arnaudville, LA, Police Dept.

The dispatcher said they called it "The Egg"
The right-rear tire on that Nissan looks a little flat
What are you going to pull over in a Nissan police car? That lawn mower?
Damn, check out the lights in back at 0:46! So weird... Then there's a traffic stop later on where the cop isn't using any warning lights at all visible to the rear - very strange.
The lights you mentioned is the new CHP system from Whelen. There is a link to a site elsewhere (I lost it when IT reformatted my ToughBook) that shows the different patterns. Personally, I love them!
As for the no lights on traffic thing. This is very common within CHP. Along the 5 you'd rarely see a CHP with its lights on. Many times once the stop was made, the officer would just use the cars hazard lights. Traffic would back up to bad with the overheads on. With the hazards, people just assume its a stalled car and go about their business without rubber necking or brake checking themselves. When lights are used, I often saw just a set of alternating amber with MAYBE two rear blues oscilating (that was rare). Of course, this was for the Visions.
Same here... however I spent some time this evening and finally tracked down where I first saw the link. Here it is;
LED Lightbar
Here ya go: LED Lightbar
This is beautiful. There oughta be more cop cars like this. This one's only a housing unit, though, which explains the reasonable amount of lighting.
From here.
