It's a Q, is what's wrong with it. Look at his avatar.

...If I had any say in the matter, mechanical sirens would be more common.

I didn't say it did... I also didn't say it needed more blue.... I said I was surprised that there wasn't more blue only because many CO depts use 1/2 red 1/2 blue. I personally think blue should be LE only nationwide, but that isn't going to happen.. Also front or side facing amber used only while the vehicle is moving is highly effective on any emergency vehicle as long as it doesn't over power the colors.

my post wasn't in response to your post at all. however, im gonna strongly disagree with front OR side mounted amber, ESPECIALLY when the vehicle is in motion

That's right. It should be yellow! Wait, blue does belong on them too.

Yeah... amber should be rear only unless parked... Clear should be while moving and not to the rear ever.....NFPA agrees.... I prefer no blue on a fire vehicle at all.... but this is the western US.... I still get ill when I see blue to the rear of FDNY.....

Blue? No. The Q? Hell, yeah! Perfect siren for a fire apparatus.
Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean that you should do it.

blue is more visible to the rear at night. Especially in a sea of red taillights. Im not mad at them for that. It makes sense.

I like both, even though we have head sets and literally with them, radio chatter, crew talk, the q and the airhorn, we can't hear it.
I'm just not a fan of running the q constantly. It's great for intersections, but on a several mile interstate run, it's annoying.
