    Thank you for sharing...

FDNY rescue units are my favorite trucks, there is something about them that has captivated me since a kid.

I like it! Big truck. I really like those mini Aerodynic light bars. The only thing I don't care for is the eagle logo. I think the US flag is a better symbol of nationalistic pride.

Ive seen a few of these in person at the fire shows, they are awesome trucks. There is soooo much equipment but everything has its own spot. The cabinets aren't stacked up with tons of stuff. I'm surprised its not a pierce or a seagrave though. Theres nothing wrong with Ferrera but I'm not used to seeing FDNY with that type of appatatus.

I like the single red in middle of the arrow stick. I dont know why they keep using the 900 5mm leds for the side, I think they should us the 900 Super Leds or upgrade the entire truck to the M series like on the new FDNY ambulances.

    Not everything...
    • Pumpers are Seagraves
    • Rear-mount aerials are Ferrara
    • Mid-mount aerials are Seagrave/Aerialscopes
    • Rescues are Ferrara
    • Ambulances are Dodge/Wheeled Coach.

The Pierce at R1 was a trial rig.

what is the purpose of the carabiners on the compartment doors? I would think that would cause alot of damage to the truck as it rubbed and bounced off the nice new paint.

I wonder if the red 5mm 900s were taken off of an older truck and recycled. cause the blue 900s in the back look new and are super led.

Possibly for locking the exterior doors...? Not the caribeeners themselvs, but it looks like the doors have lock panels on them for a pad lock...

Yes, the latches are for pad locks when the rigs have to be taken to the shops, etc, to keep the locals from helping themselves to the compartment contents. I've seen some of the companies run with carabiners through the latches all the time...

I think the fact that you are pretty much going to be rescued when one of these bad boys show up may have something to do with it lol

The eagle is the company logo, almost every house in the city had something painted on the doors, but there trying to get rid of that.

Why do you need a winch on an inner city rescue? You can't use them for securing overturned vehicles, they are only rated for self-recovery...

Uh, no. They have MANY uses, and self rescue is against many, if not most department's policy. None of our winches, except on the brush truck are to be used for self recovery.

A winch is rated for it's capacity based on it's pulling power at the drum, not it's ability to self-recover. You could put a 12,000# winch on an ATV and it would self-recover, but a 2000# winch on a brush truck would struggle with self-recovery. The rig seen features a 15,000# winch, with gives it a working rating of about 11,000#, assuming you're using it in a 1:1 fashion. You could go to about 20,000# in a 2:1.

Now, as for this rig in particular, it's a heavy rescue in one of the most populated and disaster-prone cities in the US. What couldn't it be used for?

They could pull a tractor-trailer out from under a bridge to better extricate the driver, assist with moving and/or stabilizing someone trapped under heavy debris at a construction site, assist with a subject impaled by a tree stump while operating a Bobcat (saw this personally), pull a car out from under a tractor trailer in an under-ride situation - your imagination is your limit when it comes to the uses for a winch.
