Skidmore College Capmus Safety - 2011 Ford Escape

Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, NY) - Office of Campus Safety . This is their new 2011 Ford Escape with a Amber whelen liberty and whelen siren system. They respond on all FD, PD and EMS calls on the 800 Acre campus. IMO, this is a terrable install with the lightbar not being even.

    From their website:
The Department of Campus Safety is comprised of 17 full-time and 12 part-time professionals who are all state certified security guards. The Director and Associate Director have over 45 years of combined experience in law enforcement and came to Skidmore College after successful careers with the New York State Police. Each year, members of the department receive several hous of training from both within the department and from outside sources in the areas of law enforcement, first aid, CPR, resolution conflict, diversity and investigative techniques. Additionally, members are sent to outside training programs such as RAD (Rape Aggression Defense), the New York State Police Sex Offense Seminar, cyber crime investigations and several other progams that keep our staff informed of the latest issues that confront college campuses. We have developed excellent working relations with local, county and state law enforcement agencies and other service providers in Saratoga County to improve the quality of safety on our campus.

At least they put Campus Safety and not PATROL or made security in the tinyest letters possible. They should get some amber lenses for that clear bar though. Other than that it looks nice for a security vehicle.

...Or they could have done like my college did and use blue lights with the word "police" printed on the side.

Why use amber and a siren? In NYS the same vehicle and traffic law section that discusses sirens also discusses red and white lights. So if they are able to get a siren, or willing to violate that section, might as well go all out.

Or, even better, try to become peace officers, if they aren't already.

Speaker doesn't necessarily mean siren, it could be an airhorn or even just a PA.

Agreed. And I think a campus security vehicle can definitely get slightly more utility out of a PA than your average security service does, it's probably actually very useful at times for them.

Got some extra shots I wanted to share. And to settle the siren issue, the vehile has a Whelen 295SLSA6 Controller in the console. I'll try to get some pics of it. So, It has a siren control with PA function. But, I've never seen or heard it used on the campus.

If the school is considered private property then they can go nuts with the siren all they want. But once they leave the property and are on a public road and use the siren then its a different story.

The school in question is aprox 850 acers on the main campus, so there is plenty of room to play with a siren and lights. The image bellow shows the main campus, most of which is heavily wooded. It's an old image and a lot of work has been done to add and expand buildings. The school also has several off campus locations that they patrol, all within 5 miles of the main campus.
