    Too Much Lighting

Saw this beast sitting at a local port getting ready to go over seas...couldn't get pictures of the lights too well since there aren't many. Is this typical gubbermint stuff?

The USAF had made quite a few changes to their specifications over the past couple of years, including the lack of emergency lighting. My job gives me an opportunity to visit Pierce two or three times a year, and virtually all of the USAF rigs coming out have this same lighting package.

Each branch does their own specifications, so USMC rigs have a completely different package on them.

Does it bother anyone else besides me that the scene lights aren't the same height as eachother in the rear? Couldnt they just move the one on the drivers side down so that they are just as high as eachother. I think it looks weird. I noticed the town next to ours with the same thing on their peirce. Its the only dislike that I have for their truck. This one needs more lights.

    Wow, just wow.

    1) Why bother if you are going to scrimp on the lighting package on a fire truck
    2) Does such a nice Pierce no good to be sitting outside like that

It does look off-balance, but the driver's side will project light over a little bit wider area than if it was down at the same height as the officer's side flood.

Thats a first. I have never seen Linz6's in place of 600 series on a Fire truck. It looks like someone is cashing in on the Gov making a lot of money on the truck.

NFPA 414 is the standard for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Vehicles, which this clearly does not meet, nor was it intended to. It was built to meet the intention of NPFA 1901 for structural firefighting apparatus. Just because it says "USAF" on the side does not automatically mean that it's primary use is the protection of aircraft and/or landing strips.

The LINZ6's were part of the bid package, not something that the manufacturer tried to get by with.

If you guys don't like the new rigs you should see some of the stuff that's been around for a while. It's part of "doing more with less" aka no money and no knowledge to do it the right way.
