    Greetings.

New guy here. I like blinky lights.

Ok, so I'll go into a bit more depth. Volunteer firefighter as well as good Samaritan more often than not since I've got a military + medical background. Currently displaced from Alaska to nevada, but can't wait to get back to the snow where I belong.

    Also a ham radio operator.

Already found good information just browsing. Hope to find more as I dig deeper and start asking questions. I like to know a bit more about the equipment that's installed on my apparatus than the other guys, they're happy when it blinks when it's on and doesn't when it's off.. I like to know how to most effectively use it provided I have the options and ability to "change" things.

Also might come in handy with preventing the powers that be from purchasing gimmicks and/or poor quality equipment that will end up costing more money to maintain/replace than if they bought Good, Once.

Welcome aboard!! Hope you enjoy your stay here. Great bunch of guys. We kick each other around a bit on here, but most is just us having a good time with each other to break the ice from our "norm". Some of our lives are hectic so we cut it loose a bit.

But we do support and help when we can, so sit back and enjoy. Ask any questions you may have, but get ready for some ribbing. We're good at it!!

Welcome On a side note, is it true that in Alaska you are required to stop at the scene of an accident if you are driving by and an EMT?

You're required to stop and render aid to stranded motorists, by state law, regardless of your qualifications... even just a rig broke down on the side of the road.

Most don't, and many "professionals" play it off as liability avoidance. Not talking first responders, I'm talking medical personnel such as doctors/nurses/er techs/etc. Cops, EMT's, FF's stop. Figures though, CYA for the "high rollers".. douches.

Generally speaking, I make a decision as to the situation at hand, am I by myself, or is my ex-paramedic wife with me, who's response area is it... basic sizeup... people in vehicle, just broke down or actually in an accident, bit more aggressive sizeup as I get closer to determine any MOI, do they have the means to contact help on their own ie they're already on their cell, etc etc etc. If my scene read tells me they're ok and have the means to aquire help within a reasonable amount of time or it's just a simple breakdown, I'll call either 911 or non-emergency dispatch to get help routed their way more quickly, if they're in an obvious bad way I'll stop and render aid, either towing off the road, pushing off the road, flaring and making sure they're good to go and have help coming, or staying on-scene until relieved by "more competent" personnel that are on duty, etc.

That's actually one reason I'm on here. Up at my department in AK, once you've been past a certain benchmark in your qualifications, you can respond to scene if it's between you and the nearest station, and the other fact that I stop to help people year-round because it keeps my Karma level up... I want some lights for my rig, for my own safety combined with scene identification if I'm a first responder either by coming up on an incident during day to day derpitude, or because oh, it just so happens the car fire I got paged out to happens to be blocking the intersection of my street and the street I need to go onto to get to my station and I've got all my gear in the truck minus air pack and there's already an engine on the way.

I've been on the side of the road doing exactly that and having retards blow past me while I'm putting turnouts on at the side of the road. Anything will help.
