    Aspen Ambulance District 4x4 Ambulances

Got the chance to head out to Aspen for a quick ski trip and saw these in town...

Both Chevy and Ford 4x4 models. The units covering the ski resorts have the stokes up top. The Aspen Ambulance District offers ALS to most parts of Aspen-Pitkin County.

Responding to approximately 1,100 calls a year, Aspen Ambulance District employs 35 full-time and part-time professionals who have Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), EMT-Intermediate (EMT-I), and paramedic (EMT-P) certifications.

The Downtown Aspen unit is kept inside the new Aspen Volunteer FD Station:

4 wheel drive would be nice. Interesting to see the stokes on top. I can see the need for it out there

Decent flashy/equipment setup, but the graphics is lacking IMO. I couldn't tell...are there grill lights in there? Assuming they have a pair of them, the only addition I would make is a lighthead above each rear wheel well I think a lot of ambos lack lower box lighting.

Stokes basket up there looks like it'd be a B%*ch to get down.
I'm not sure I'd wanna drive a top-heavy 4x4 ambo around I slope...I'd much rather have a QRV/fly car that'll bring the pt down. When i was EMS captain in NY, i used to drive an excursion fly car with room for a pt in the backboard (if it was an off road rescue/EMS call) and it worked great

Look like filler panels because the trucks are 4x4.

I'm not sure why, but I'm really liking the orange and blue combo.

Makes me think of the simplicity of federal rigs, looks nice.

Why is that pitiful? For all you know this "volunteer" station has a staffed fire crew 24x7.

Edit: yep, its a combination department. Sounds about right to me. http://www.aspenfire.com/sitepages/pid30.php

The Aspen Volunteer FD is in the Aspen Fire Protection District. The AVFD has 45 Volunteers who staff apparatus and respond in POVs when called.

All the other fancy ski resorts in Colorado (Vail, Beaver Creek, Teluride, Steamboat, etc...) all were volly FDs that turned all paid. If a town can support a volly FD, good for them. Saving tax payers' $$. I believe AVFD has an ISO of 4

They run nice rigs. The graphics are kind of boring and I wish the lightbar to the front had colored lenses like the rest of the lights but aside from that I dig them.

    Thanks for sharing

I'm jealous; I'd like to ski on some real snow instead of the shaved ice we have up here.

Those are nice rigs. Not sure the 4x4 is necessary though. We handle the ski areas and our ambos don't have 4x4.

1,100 calls a year, wow. Would have thought they would have been busier considering what a tourist trap they are. Coming from a system that handles over 100,000 calls a year I'm not sure I could handle that volume.

This has been said already, but I'd hate to have to be the guy to crawl up and get the stokes basket down. It's hard enough to get one off of a roof of an SUV.

Like to see they switched back to colored lenses on the front bar. My biggest annoyance is all colored lights and a clear bar. Huge up here in MA.
