Odd Model 12 Twinsonic speaker cover found

Hello fellow ELB members!

This time I have another odd item to share with you! I recently bought out an old Federal dealers' twinsonic inventory. He had NOS domes, speaker covers motors and bulbs. In the mix I found this odd cover! Never seen one like this before, no speaker perforations on any side! Solid on both sides of cover. I had to call him back and inquire about it and he said many years ago a client asked for it and Federal made it as a special sample. Definitely different LOL. I had it polished of course!

The neatest looking TS speaker cover I've seen was one with horizontal rows of perforations in the grille.

A few years ago I found a stack of speaker grille blanks at a surplus store. The perforations were cut but they were never bent-up. I know I still have a few w/ the protective adhesive plastic still on the polished side...

I have a DualComm with a solid "speaker" cover as well...used on a wrecker. I also recall FedSig offered no cover for the model 12 as well.

You couldn't delete the speaker cover. You could get it in aluminum or stainless. You could specify grill or no grill. And you could specify visibeam cut out or nah. Anything beyond this was either special order or shop made.

It must have been shop made...back in the 70s, Jefferson Co. (KY) had a mod 12 with no speaker cover and a Q in the middle for eval. They ended up with Dietz 911s (looked better on the cars--still couldn't hear yourself think...!).
