My dept. has a VERY old/abused pontoon boat that was donated to us in 1997. Structurally still in good shape but was in dire need of a facelift. The railing sheet metal was bent and ripped, no flood/work lights (broken off over the years), and the warning lights were 2 cheap LED Chinese rectangular beacon type heads that were mounted midship and too low to be effective.

Since we're a volunteer dept. the funds had to come from the members or donations. Money was ponied up by dept. members, as well as time donations to the install. After getting the blessing from the chief, we began. As of 06-26-17 we had completed the following upgrades....

Mounted on 2 PVC light posts in the front corners are 4 Feniex T3 for front warning, 2 Superbrightleds brand 5inch 2025 lumen square 30deg. LED work lights, reskinned the boat fence/rails with new sheet metal and applied some fresh vinyl decals.

We still have some rear work and warning lights to add before calling it done. I'll add more as it gets completed.

Public safety boats generally mount 1 elevated rotating light so it can be visible 360 degrees. Check your state's marine code to determine the correct color and any other requirements/limitations.
