Cannon problem

My friend is installing a set of red/white cannons to replace the reverse lights on a 2016 Impala. Red/white flashing is overridden by steady white. The problem is the wires for the reverse lights have a constant 4-7V and so the steady white is overriding the flashing. He would prefer not to swap the trigger wires and lose reverse lights when the flashing is activated.

Anybody have a workaround for this?

He used resistors in the front to dim the cannons for parking/signal/flash and he is worried about heat buildup behind the carpet of the trunk since this wire is hot 24/7. We were thinking a relay that won't activate until it gets a full 13-ish volts might solve the problem if such a thing exists.

not a resistor on the cannon... on the wire that "stays hot" your saying that with the car off the wire for the back up lamps has power....

Yes. ~4.5 volts with the car off and the reverse lights are not in "getting out the car" mode. When shifted into reverse, the wire has about 14V. He's actually doing an install on two Imapals and has the same issue with both.

On my recommendation after walking away from this thinking about it, he connected the reverse light wires to the phase 3 trigger through a 12V relay and it seems to have done the trick.

PS the resistor in the front may have been to correct the fast flashing of the directional. Whatever it was exactly it was per the local Feniex dealer, which is UBL.
