From what I can recall, the Indiana Jetsonic was chain-drive, but also had the special mirrors and wiring that allowed front cutoff or rear cutoff. All of the rotators would still spin, being chain drive, but only the desired rotators would have power to their lamps.

I stand corrected:

This is an independent rotator series, but with mirrors to isolate the front and rear.  This is not the true "smart" setup offered in chain drive versions.
