Hey guys,

found this interesting Aerodynic in West Yellowstone, MT today.
It's mounted on a local tow/service truck.

It is not the average wrecker version of the Aerodynic as it has the sealed beams in the center and a siren housing. Hope you guys like this find.

Anyone know a model number or history of this?

Thanks
Darius

I'm sure it was a factory bar built for the Holmes Wrecker towing equipment. Nice design for a wrecker bar!

That's an interesting setup and may be what the bar I have is supposed to look like I would need to dig it out but i have a 24 wrecker bar.. or at least what is left of one.

There was a model 24 Wrecker bar configuration Off the top of my head I do not remember the designation.. The RWL comes to mind. Eric?

Idk about that...it looks pretty similar looks like it even has the plastic par rotators.

.

I know your the foremost expert on federal Eric but Everything matches that bar except the rear outer par's.

Thanks, but I don't think I'm"foremost" lol.

The problem is back when the 25RWL was in production it never had plastic
PAR holders, as far as I am aware. That bar you referenced was from Ryan in Northern Cali and it was a project bar as far as I can recall.

The wrecker bar I have is setup like the picture deelony posted.. except it's missing several things including the Plastic outer Par holders. Now I am tempted to go out and dig it up and see what the tag reads.

I hear you Eric. But if you look at the pictures closely you can see that the par rotator in the holmes bar is a full circle bulb holder compared to a metal par holder that would usually be in a aerotwin at the time. The so called frankenbar has the same full circle par rotator bulb holder. 118315_33d875bf06fe0b93136b803e9c66e61f.JPG

Something isn't adding up on this Holmes light bar in this post. Those V-mirrors are back from the Twinsonic era, based on the design and rivets that I can make out in the picture. There is now way those mirrors and plastic PAR holders were in production at the same time LOL

Idk... seeing two similar bars with the same v mirrors kind of make you think that it is legit.

Ok, I just looked at the pictures Rich posted and I see the model number 24RV-1Z which indicates a model 24, Rotator version with V-mirrors and custom set-up. The convincing is getting closer LMAO:D

Speaking of those mirrors : didn't the technical drawings of the 24A aerodynic had those mirrors? Im spraking about the alley only models, not the usual EA, E, EH or EAH ones.

Im pretty sure those mirrors are the same and were fitted around the alley light plastic PAR holders. That would be one more clue towards being athentic.

Yes they are. The plastic PAR holders don't seem period correct to me though. I think what I am wondering is when did they come around.....

Federal Signal Model 24 Towman Special. It was available with either rear flashers or work lights on those rear facing pars.

I have been looking for one of these!

The trick is duplicating the "Holmes" speaker housing. The last resto I did for a customer was done w/ vinyl over the stainless... Turned-out awesome!

I convinced Eric once (Streethawk with center strobes). Biggest PITA ever... :p

Those all-strobe Streethawks were not that uncommon.

Like one of these? Not to hijack the thread but...

I recently got one of these back on trade from when I sold them in the early 90's. I remember these bars distinctly as we modified the center strobe dome with a 1/2 round red filter on the inside so as not to allow for any rear white, which was prohibited up here. If you look closely, you can see the red tint on the inside of the clear strobe dome.

Well what Tony was referring to was, it was hard to convince me that the strobe conversion was factory original and not field modified. Here a picture of the light bar that was in question:

Ahhhhh....

For some reason, the photo is not loading... I'd like to see it!

We ordered the units we sold above right from Federal. We asked for a center strobe instead of the stupid rotator. They had either the StarFires or the UltraStars installed in the center, If I remember correctly. This one I got back looks like an UltraStar. The only thing we had to change was the addition of the 1/2 red filters because they came through with the fugly 1/2 "model 14" domes installed like the rotator versions if you ordered that option... Those got yanked after the customer screamed WTF when seeing those in his bars upon delivery of the first unit...
If my feeble mind recalls correctly, some of the later units may have had a split dome on the UltraStars but I don't recall if we did that or Federal did. I'm guessing our shop boy may have done the mods due to the cost factor but I definitely remember a few of those out the door here like that as well...

That indeed is a factory holmes bar. People have to remember Holmes was the largest buyer of fedsig amber at the time. They built several hundred wreckers and flatbed and service bodies a year. It's a long shot but a guy by the name of Jamie Davis in Canada may have parts. He is a huge huge holmes collector and runs Jamie Davis towing.
