Police officer in Wis. killed, another wounded

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — One police officer has been killed and another critically wounded during a standoff at a house in eastern Wisconsin.
The Fond du Lac police chief says 28-year-old Officer Craig Birkholz was shot in the chest and killed by the suspect early Sunday. Police Chief Tony Barthuly says another officer was shot and is in critical condition.
Authorities went to the house around 6 a.m. Sunday, and a man inside the home began shooting at them.
Police say the man later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found inside the house after a nearly six-hour standoff.
The Reporter of Fond du Lac says a third officer was wounded on the stairs in the home.
Fond du Lac is about 65 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
