KSP Trooper Sergeant David Gibbs died as a result of an on duty crash that occurred in LaRue County.

Police say the accident took place just before 6:30 a.m. on KY Hwy. 210 (also known as Campbellsville Road), near the Buffalo area, just before the Green County line.

According to a news release, Gibbs was driving a Kentucky State Police 2010 Ford Crown Victoria Cruiser westbound on KY Hwy. 210 when he lost control of his vehicle in a sharp, rain-soaked curve. The vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane, where it was hit by a 2015 white Jeep driven by a 63-year-old man from Louisville.

Gibbs was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaRue County Coroner's Office. The man in the Jeep was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

This is the 2nd one since June. The last one was hit by a semi after the trooper failed to negotiate a curve and was struck.

Hate to hear it for both families. This one was only 45 minutes from me.
