Rewiring Whelen LED Traffic Arrow

I have a Whelen negative switched 8 head LED traffic arrow with controller. We will be putting it in service on a rescue. I need a new wiring harness, but I really don't spend $100+ on a new harness. I have a local electrical supply store that I use to buy strobe cable. I can purchase the correct connectors and the same type 9 lead cable for much less there than buying the Whelen cable. Can I just splice all the positives together inside the bar and then connect it to a 9 lead cable to run to the controller? Or will that be too much for the one positive wire? It'll probably be around 18 awg wire in the cable. Thanks for any help!
