Hello all,

As the title says, what is the best mobile to get?

Looking for VHF and possible P25 capability.

There are so many out there, where do I start? The only place I have left to install anything is to the right of the console in the passenger area.

I've been looking at Astro Spectra's but not really sure.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Not a lot of space there. If it was me I'd get a Motorola Astro Spectra or XTL5000 with a W3 or O3 head. That's the mic and controls in the hand held head. Minimalistic and functional.

All comes down to budget really.

You can find a AS P25 100w with W3 for 250 or less.

Good luck,
Seth

Ok. That's what I've been looking at. Haven't been able to find an AS with that control head yet.

How hard are they to convert? I've seen some regular AS on eBay for a decent price.

Not going to be able to change the head, the HHCH requires a different interconnect board on the radio than the regular heads and you would have to force different programming into the radio. Not worth it, and not cost effective to purchase the hardware if you can even find it, remember the astro spectras are old radios. If you want the HHCH you will have to keep an eye out for one already configured for it, or you could try to find a spot to mount a remote mount regular head. Perhaps right at the base of the shifter?

Ok. I was thinking of getting the regular mount anyway.

That would be a good spot but unfortunately it's already got my Smartsiren control head mounted there. Lol.

I may just go with a regular mount AS and mount it to the right of the shifter.

Well seeing as you can get a 100w W3 VHF Astro spectra brick with P25 for 70 bucks or so on the bay... add another 150 or so for control head, power, ignition, speaker and interconnect cable, I think it may still be a worthwhile investment..
