I am a lieutenant for a volunteer ambulance service. We do almost 2,000 calls per year as a BLS agency, including responding mutual aid to different parts of the county. We have two ambulances which have dying Kenwood radios, that can barely talk to our dispatch center when in town (4ish square miles). We would like to replace the Kenwoods with something better and are looking to purchase replacement radios. We also have a third ambulance that was donated to us, as well as two rehab vehicles that were also donated. We would ideally like to have the same style radio across our fleet, so we are looking for 3-5 MCS2000 or Astro Spectra mobiles. We do need the high power model as we transport patients to well outside our coverage area frequently. Thank you.

On your current ambulances, have you checked the coax and the antennas to make sure they are in good repair?

I have replaced more than my fair share of coax that was snaked through, around, over, under all of the nooks, crannies and corners in an ambulance, and had the radios back to full output to dispatch.
