Well after a strange set of events my first newly purchased teardrop light has made its way back to me. An SVP model 1166 teardrop.

thanks to several of you who responded to my request in locating a replacement red dome, today I received brand new old stock dome in original packaging. With very minimal cleaning and a new power cord, "It's Alive" which is amazing considering the life its led.

Somewhere along the way, the bulb has been replaced with an automotive 1156. It actually works quite well, but I want to obtain an accurate bulb if possible. the original one was shaped sort of like a Mushroom Cloud, it that makes sense. I replaced it with a halogen bulb that fit the single pin twist lock base because every one else was doing so back then. I think it helped a bit but not sure.

can someone tell me which bulb would have been accurate back then?

thanks
Bob

A halogen 795 series bulb is what I am used to seeing in these as a halogen option. I'm not sure if something else was used as an option, but generally warning lights with a socket that fits an 11xx series bulb with a single contact the go to bulb was a 795 series.

A 795 or 795X bulb adds quite a bit of pop to the flash intensity.

So this model had the option of coming equipped with either a 1195 incandescent bulb or the 795 halogen. If it's a display piece, either bulb will work. If you plan on using this in the field, I recommend fitting it with a 795X bulb. The halogen bulb has a vertical oriented filament, which is the orientation of the original 1195, or what was called a "pre focused" bulb. Basically it allowed the light to better fill or focus the beam to give a "bright", sharp impulse. Obviously the halogens offered greater power over the incandescent bulb. I have attached several pictures to show the difference. The pic of the 2 halogen bulbs show the difference in filament orientation ( the 795X is on the right). I hope this helps.
