    Vintage Catalogs: JC Whitney

These are from a 1978 issue of JCW. I looked forward to my free copy every month as a kid. Until they dropped warning lights almost entirely in the late 1980s.

Anyone have leads on catalogs for these manufacturers? I'd even help get them scanned if interested.

Tulsa Fire, Engine 17 (cool flash pattern!)

I'm surprised to have not seen a flash pattern like this before. Maybe it's only possible on a bar that wide. I dislike the blending of colors on the bar and on the individual light-heads. Love red/blue. Just not the intermingling of the two colors so close together.

    Galls Catalog (1989)

Found this on eBay. Got it for $4. Had to take the catalog apart to get these pages scanned. Pretty interesting stuff!

    Michigan Fire Trucks: Red/Blue Lights

Many municipalities in Michigan have "public safety agencies." Especially in several of Detroit's more affluent northern suburbs (Huntington Woods, Oak Park, Berkley, Farmington, Bloomfield Hills, Canton Township, Fraser, Grosse Pointe city, Grosse Pointe Woods). This means their police and fire...

Federal Signal Commander: Rebooted With 21st Century Tech

I debated with whether this should be posted in this thread or somewhere else. But the base and dome of this Commander series of 120v beacons is very traditional. It looks like the they just swapped out the internals with Solaris Rotators. These rotators are amazing. I had my doubts until...

"The Mind Boggling Classic Cop Car Thread"

That's the name. And I guess it is accurate since I just spent three hours consuming the pictures. Pretty amazing stuff. https://www.lcpdfr.com/forums/topic/33072-the-mind-boggling-classic-cop-car-thread/

    Identify This Lightbar

Small screenshots from larger images seen on the Facebook page "Vintage Wreckers" (an interesting resource). What is this lightbar? At first I thought maybe it was one of those second generation Sireno Condor bars (vertically half the height of the earlier flying bricks). But then the internals...

    Vintage Catalogs: Signal Stat

I'm just realizing that there isn't a single page of old Signal Stat literature here. Surely someone has some to share.

OLED Technology: Will It Ever Reach Emergency Use?

Once the technology improves in both performance and cost effectiveness would it ever be possible to apply OLED systems to warning lights (lightbars/beacons)? Imagine a bar that could simulate the flash patterns of a Twinsonic bar... change colors.. do a total whiteout for scene lighting. Or...

A Lightbar Display Ferris Wheel: Those Crazy Europeans!

You only get to see it from the front. But I giggled stupidly waiting to see what popped up next with each cycle. This part is at the 2 minute mark.

Zero DS Police Motorcycle: 100% Electric

A friend that I grew up with in suburban Detroit now works as a consultant in the auto industry. His work occasionally takes him to ATV and motorcycle factories. In one of these tours he encountered a fleet of electric bikes made by ZERO. He test drove one and was so impressed that he bought one...

Caprice PPV and Impala: What Happens After 2017?

All accounts indicate that GM will no longer produce a long wheel-base sedan on its Holden platform in Australia after the 2017 model year.. including the Chevy Caprice Police Pursuit. This would leave General Motors with the Impala PPV as its only police sedan. Will the the Impala Police...

    Troy Police - 70s & 80s Signal-Stat Dual-Comms

I had to retrofit these myself with the blue/clear domes and the red sealed beams under the clear side to mimic the lightbars used by the police in Troy, Michigan from the late 1970s thru to about 1990. The blues domes need to be polished.

    SOLD - Code 3 MX7000 - Loaded ($175 shipped)

I have four MX7000 all-light lightbars. They all work... five rotators, alley-lights, takedowns, front flashers, rear traffic-advisors, and oscillating intersection lights. The domes are all clear while the rotators have red & blue filters. I'd rate their overall condition as 7.5/10. With a...

    My First Road Trip Haul

I joined GovDeals two weeks ago. On a whim I bid on a pallet of surplus lightbars. I ended up winning six Code 3 MX7000 bars (all loaded with takedowns, alleys, intersection oscillators and traffic advisors) and two Federal Signal StreetHawk bars (one all-light, one with a speaker section). Also...

    Identify This Lightbar ("frankenbar?")

Spotted on NB I-65 north of Nashville. Pulled from the Facebook page "Antique/Vintage Warning Light Collector." Ralph Barry posted it. It looks to me like something cobbled together from various, older models. The mounting hardware looks totally homemade and the bar itself appears to be sagging...

Flasher Circuit For Signal Stat Dual-Comm.. What Model?

Is the flasher used to make the inboard sealed-beams wig-wag flash a fairly universal item or does it have to be a specific type/model? When I search "Signal-Stat flasher" on the Internet I get dozens of types.. most I assume are used for turn signals and hazard lights. My guess is that none of...

    Best Sealed Beam Replacement Source?

I know there are a lot of web-based stores. Does anyone here have an opinion about a good source for buying these items? I'm looking to buy several 4416-R (red par-36 sealed-beams) for Signal Stat Dual-Comm lightbars and a 4436 (the larger, 5.75-inch sealed beam) for an RV-26 Unity beacon...

Ohio Agency Uses Michigan State Police LED Beacons.. in BLUE!

There's a Facebook page for fans of old Mars products (Mars Lightbars). On it came the topic of the Michigan State Police conversion of RV26 Unity beacons into LED units. Someone suggested that Mars could do the same with their classic Skybolt beacons. In that thread a guy from Ohio shared some...

Proper Operation Of Light Collection in the Home

HELP: I've been nosing around some other posts on this topic. I'm now even more confused. Too many conflicting opinions. Too many dead links.  What is the best way to power up lights in the home from standard household/AC power? I do not want to use a battery or a battery-charger. It would be...
