North American Signal - Siren Master Si-75-C, need wiring guide

Tim: My friend Harold whom you've heard me speak of has an SI-100M that needs to be rebuilt. I also called North American to try and get a manual for it; and like you, they laughed at me. They did offer to sell a new one for $249. I picked up a nice looking SI-75M off of Craig's list a couple...

Movies & Television: Police, Fire & EMS Vehicles

Seems that the under-the-bumper B&Ms were common on LAFD rescue trucks. Lou Farah has one of the original panel truck rescues, but not a '58 like this one. When he got his panel truck rescue truck the B&M was fender-mounted. The truck has since undergone a total restoration both inside and...

Vintage Frankenstein-ed lights, beacons and light bars.

Interesting little truck. Reminds me of my late dad's '61 Ford Econoline pickup. A couple of interesting vehicles I've run across here in Midland recently (and didn't have a camera to get any pix): one was a very small Japanese-built firetruck with lights and working siren still attached...

    Whelen ROTA-BEAM Family History

I've never been a fan of Federal's "Jet" series. We had a Jetstream that came on our 1992 Type II Ford ambulance, and I never liked it. I quickly replaced it with a Streethawk. One light that I liked for being able to mix up colors was Mars' SW2 beacons. They were available with clear domes...

    Whelen ROTA-BEAM Family History

Wolfie: You mentioned the split amber/red on rotators. Something I mentioned recently on another thread I think you'd find interesting. A friend of mine in Lubbock back in the late '60s and early '70s decided to put in a roadside assistance business. He bought an old Sears van for that...

    Whelen ROTA-BEAM Family History

Here in Texas, red is the prescribed color for emergency vehicles, but blue is allowed as an auxillary color only. Blue standing alone is not legal for emergency responses, although I've seen it done more than once. And I've never seen any effort in enforcing it. Clear to the rear is...

    Whelen ROTA-BEAM Family History

Interesting about the amber front/ red rear for tow applications. Waaay "back in the day" before the JAWS of Life existed, here in Texas, wreckers were considered emergency vehicles and were allowed the use of red lights and sirens. Quite often wreckers were used to literally rip cars apart to...

Vintage Frankenstein-ed lights, beacons and light bars.

Thanks, Michael. Didn't realize it was listed on Ebay. If it says 77GB, then it was off a doubletone siren, for sure. One nice thing about Federal's line of motor sirens back in the day was that housings and grilles from the 60s, 70s, and Cs were all interchangeable. Except the C series was a...

Vintage Frankenstein-ed lights, beacons and light bars.

From the pic. it looks like a Federal nameplate, but you'd need a top view to see for sure. The horizontal bar on the port was common the Cs, but some of the 60 series had vertical bars on the port.

Vintage Frankenstein-ed lights, beacons and light bars.

I don't think that this one is a Sireno at all. It appears to e a Federal C5G, with common Federal two-piece bracket, housing and grille. The only thing I see different is that the siren appears to have possible been a C4,the underhood version, as it doesn't appear to be chromed like the rest...

    Federal FIRE BALL Family History

I thought that I had commented on this but don't see it. I have a Federal 174 that is a Darley rebadged light. Interesting thing is that this light is in the old-style Model 17 beacon housing with the smaller plastic dome and short skirt.

    For Sale Vintage lollipop lights

Nice lights, but they're not considered lollipop lights. The lollipops made by Dietz, DoRay and others were 7" in diameter...referred to as "pancake" lights in some places.

For Sale FederalSignal Model 174 Super Beacon

While I think you have it waaay overpriced, they are very nice beacons. I have a red one on my 1966 Olds ambulance. Just curious to know if you bought it with the magnets and plug or did you do that yourself? For many years you never saw full-sized beacons made portable like that: but SVP...

For Sale Sireno Siren Model 44620 NIB NOS

Coop 359, we used one of those on a '61 Buick Flxette ambulance back in the early '80s that had become ours for the second time. We had sold the Buick to a race track in Odessa (from whom we were never paid) who had literally given it to a small vol. fire dept. We got it from that dept. when...

For Sale McDonald & Arneson model M

Whooooa! Haven't seen one of those in many, many years, Tony! First ones I ever saw were in the late '50s on Ft. Worth P.D. units. The federal gov't also used a large number of them on their Pontiac coach-type ambulances. I worked out of an old '58 ex-Air Force Pontiac ambulance that...

Vintage Frankenstein-ed lights, beacons and light bars.

I had to look twice at this one to see what it is. Appears to be a 184 that has been canabalized and refitted with that custom base. The base reminds me of an ambulance that a friend in Lubbock had back in the '70s. It was a '61 lwb Superior/Pontiac ambulance that he bought from the...

Vintage Frankenstein-ed lights, beacons and light bars.

Looks like it was done in very good taste and workmanship. A friend of mine years ago who engaged in roadside assistance had bought an old Sears van for that purpose. He came up with a decent TwinSonic that was all amber. He wanted the bar to be red/blue, with blue to the front and red to the...

Sold! Lectric Lites Ranger LL300 strobe lightbar

Wow, Tony! Nice ol' Ranger bar. Haven't seen one in many years! Lectric-Lite's original offices were in Lubbock....right across the street from where I worked for many years. I got to see the first-ever Ranger bar being constructed back in the '70s; and I had the original Prototype of their...

    For Sale B&M S8B Siro-Drift Siren

Nice! My first-ever siren was an S8 (no brake) like that with the small rounded motor. It was 6-volt and had been given to our Explorer Post by Dick Miles, Kevin O'Connell's mentor and predecessor. When the Post folded my junior year in high school I was given the siren. I had noticed that...
