    Types of Flashers

Flashers for emergency warning lights have been around almost as long as the lights themselves. The obvious ones are halogen flashers and strobe packs (which contain transformers and flashers and other "magic" stuff). Most of those are fairly simple and I won't really discuss them now. LED...

    Placement of Lighting & Lightheads

Additional warning like lights in rear side-facing windows is nice to have but not always necessary. You're right that using them for intersection warning is more or less useless, but on a traffic control car they're great.

    Interior vs. Exterior

Excellent perspective for LEOs. I feel that in Fire/EMS any marked vehicle should have a roof mounted bar. A chief officer is never going to sneak up on a fire or stroke. Maybe you could argue for specific support vehicles needing substantially less warning, but most of the time a quality bar...

    2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 **NEW SETUP 05/15**

I think, sadly, Marc is right. But I at least won't have to strip the truck since it maintains registration in SC.

Funeral Escort / Removal Vehicle - Suburban

Before this turns into a debate over light colors, suffice it to say that different states have different laws and I'm sure the installer is a professional and wouldn't do anything allowing an illegal activity to take place.

    It's got a Q!

I agree. There is absolutely a point at which more does not equal better, and I think I may be skating around that point. I'm pretty sure I'm in the area where it come down to HOW I use the siren compared to simply just turning them on.

    Single Tone vs. Dual Tone

I think it's all based on situation. On my POV I have the option to run up to triple tone. Rarely is it necessary, but the ability to make that much noise to clear a tough intersection is nice to have.

    It's got a Q!

John, I see your point and counter with this. With this setup I have the choice of multiple options. Late at night with very light traffic I can run a single tone siren. During "rush hour" I can make just a tad less noise than the apparatus I'm going to go get.

    It's got a Q!

I've considered a set of grover 1510s but then I realize how much a good air delivery/storage system costs and... yeah. Now that I'm on a computer and not my phone I can type everything I wanted to. The aforementioned is indeed of my POV and yes, I made a lot of noise, however I justify this...

    It's got a Q!

Haters gonna hate. Oh and to be perfectly honest, I DID probably make a bit more noise than truly necessary because it was going on youtube for y'all to see and to really test out the full potential of my (then) newly completed warning package.

    Lighting Brand Reputations

I'll toss my hat in the ring. Companies I've had DIRECT dealings with: Whelen: On several occasions I've contacted customer service/tech support and received nothing but good information. ONCE I had a service tech who seemed like he just wanted me off the phone so he could go back to whatever...

What to use, & when (definitions of a whacker)

I think as a general term, Whacker can be defined in several ways (or combination of ways). Here is my incomplete list of what qualifies someone as a whacker. spends more on lights/sirens than the vehicle is worth has a ridiculous number of lights/sirens on a vehicle the top of the vehicle...

I like that 30. I feel like the 20 might not sound as good mounted under the hood of a vehicle.

    FD Problems With POVs

My department prohibits pov to scene for all but the most extreme scenarios. That being said, a neighboring department had a similar issue and revoked pov to scene for everyone except line officers. I believe their exceptions to that rule include if you must pass the scene and if all appropriate...

    sterling model 20 short

Just so you know, I find that generally the lower the amp draw the worse performance is. I wouldn't go with anything that draws less than 50-60 amps. An electrically sound FS 28 will draw 75 amps on startup and normal use is averaged out to be about 55 amps.

The main reason I want a second siren is just for options. And partially for the "because I can" factor.

My 96 CV Install Arjent w TA and Deck lights with detailed installation

Had a '93 Wheeled Coach Type III on a Ford E series chassis that had a police style Hawk on it. The bus had almost no flashing white to the front (since I turned off the HLF at night) so I swapped lower lenses around and had the outboard lights wig-wag white and steady burn reds on the inboards...

Update on 2006 Chevy Tahoe slick-top

Indeed there is such a thing as off brand. I just did a ton of research on this, including speaking to legal council on multiple occasions.
