    Truck with a V10 engine.

Then I would agree with the other poster that said any modern gas V8 will suffice. Just find something in good shape and make sure it is geared well enough to tow with. Condition would be more important to me than miles.

    Truck with a V10 engine.

How new you looking to buy? Ram has the 6.4L V8 starting in 2014. I have one in a 2014 Ram 2500 and it's a powerhouse for a gasser and doesn't do terrible fuel mileage wise. It's just a simple, reliable pushrod engine that should have great longevity. It does have MDS but I don't see an issue...

    Michigan Fire Trucks: Red/Blue Lights

It's really interesting as to how vastly different every state is for emergency vehicle lighting. I will admit that I'm not very old but I can only ever remember red and blue on fire apparatus here in Iowa. In the past couple of years my FD has updated a couple trucks and the replacemets came...

I bought a fire engine, need help with warning equipment

I'm not any help with the lighting and siren on this one but I'm a Mopar guy so I just had to chime in to say how cool that truck is. I wanted to get my department's 1969 W300 Air Force P10 when we turned it back in to DOD but I couldn't get it bought, my plan was to do the same as you and...

Official "Whacker" or "Screwed Up Install" Thread

We'd never dream of doing it either but it's how FDNY does it so I guess that's what all the other "cool kids" do too!:rolleyes:

Apparatus Manufacturer. If you could pick one....

We run a couple of E-ONE engines, one commercial and one custom chassis. Don't have any real complaints about either but we only run ~100 calls a year so they don't get a lot of abuse. I would like to get a new Toyne on a custom chassis, we had an older one on a commercial chassis that did get...

Wanted Looking for Amber Whelen Edge Lenses

The city I work for bought a new to us plow truck with Blue Mirror Edge warning lights I can't run blue so I need some Amber lenses. Looking for two sets. Thanks!

    Fire boot recommendations?

We recently switched from Thorogood Hellfire rubbers to the Globe Supreme leathers. Those things are amazingly comfortable, but they are expensive! I've heard that the Black Diamond rubbers are the most comfortable rubber boots out there and they aren't that expensive, no first hand experience...

Official "Whacker" or "Screwed Up Install" Thread

That makes sense, it showed up on DOD Surplus this morning. There were about 8 others as well but this is the only one with an Aerodynic on it. There is some really interesting stuff that turns up on Surplus from time to time.

Old, but still in Service O.O

We were actually approved to replace that truck about a month after I posted that so we don't have it anymore. I'm not sure what make those spotlights were but they didn't work very well.

    Picked up old ambulance today

OLD? We still run a 1997 E350/Osage as our first out Rescue, just got back from a run in a a little bit ago actually. Not near those miles though, only 100K on it. All halogen lighting as well. That rig looks real nice for the usage it's seen!

Old, but still in Service O.O

We still have this in front line service. Not period correct lighting on it though. 1975 Dodge/Pierce W-300 Mini-Pumper

New FD Brush Pickup lighting thoughts/ideas needed.

I have thought about used, and suggested it, but the Chief said he would like to go with new. I can't say I disagree with him, the three other rigs we have built in-house have used/recycled lights on them and we have plenty of trouble with them. I was thinking about $2,000 for lighting (warning...

New FD Brush Pickup lighting thoughts/ideas needed.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. As far as the front T6's, would they fit between the wheel well and the headlight? I completely understand the point of keeping them forward for intersection warning, we probably will not be installing a brush guard so that might be the best spot if they...

New FD Brush Pickup lighting thoughts/ideas needed.

My FD is going to try to put together a new Brush Pickup next year. This will be done in house and of course, on a limited budget. The chassis will be a crew cab RAM 3500 or Ford 350 cab & chassis and we will be installing an aluminum flatbed with a skid unit. This will also be used as our...

    Philly Grass Firefighter 1

That's one of the first things I noticed, thought it was unusual for a big department like that to have that old of a brush rig. Our first due brush rig is older than that though, 1975 Dodge/Pierce W300, it needs replaced really bad...

    Toyne Fire Apparatus

We run a 1990 Ford/Toyne as our 2nd due, it was our 1st due from 1990-2012. No real complaints. Body has a few cracks starting to show up but we take it out in the fields/off-road for grass fires so that's not unexpected for a 26 year old piece of equipment. I have had the opportunity to be...

    Not using spine boards anymore?

Same in Iowa, updated to the Selective Spine Immobilization protocols in 2015. We have gone to using a vaccuum mattress for most things, most of our patients have a 10-15 minute wait for transport and then a 30-40 minute ride to the hospital so it's way more comfortable for them and accomplishes...

    Spinal board ID

We have 2 methods. We use Sharpies and just redo the writing every so often and we also apply our departments logo. We had the sign shop that does all of our lettering, shirts, jackets, etc. make us some weatherproof decals with our logo, they are about 6"x6". They were very reasonably priced...

    What's in your bunkers?

+1 on the Vantage, absolutely love mine. There are also a couple of guys I know that use the Blackjack flashlight mount with some different lights and they seem to like them. I'll stick with my Vantage though.

    IN SERVICE vintage equipment thread

We had an Engine with a Twinsonic in service until 2013, it's still in service with another department but I'm told they got rid of the Twinsonic. Our 1975 Dodge Mini-Pumper has been upgraded at some point before we owned it, I'm not sure what would have come on it from the factory? Our current...

    What's in your bunkers?

My bunker coat carries my structural gloves in one pocket, extrication and a couple pairs of medical gloves in the other. Radio pocket on my coat has a small hammer type tool and a couple of pens/pencils(I use a radio strap to carry my radio). Left side bunker pant pocket carries webbing, a...

    Dispatching apps for cell phones?

We've been using IAR for about 6 months now and we are very happy with it. We are an all volunteer department and everyone responds from home to the station. Once we got a few things ironed out with dispatch it has worked very well and our members are very good about giving a response when a...

Who is old enough to recognize what this is?

My city still uses one every day as the "Noon Whistle". It is also our outdoor warning siren and the Fire Whistle. It doesn't use the old CD controller anymore though.

White Lights Only for Iowa Ambulances?

EMS personnel are allowed to use white as a courtesy light in their POV, no other colors. There has been nothing sent to our department from the State on any changes. I'm not sure how they could make it work anyway, NFPA being one reason, cost another, and our EMS rig responds as a Fire rig as...

    Positive Purchase from Pete L.

First purchase for me off of ELB. Went very smoothly. Purchased some SVP Mini Phantoms from Pete. Excellent communication, excellent packaging, and they actually got here a day earlier than I was expecting! Thanks Pete!
