    Whelen ROTA-BEAM Family History

You remind me of a hunter episode I was watching on hulu, where he is in a pursuit with a teardrop on the roof, cutaway and return, and there's a strobe up there instead. About split though, it's why I'm a fan of the jetstream, jetstrobe, jetsonic series. You can do anything with the colors...

    Whelen ROTA-BEAM Family History

I've seen AZ DOT running split rotators, amber to the front, red to the rear. It has been almost 20 years since I've seem that though. Red front, amber rear also makes sense for the back of a fire engine. Then there are states like mine, New Mexico. They really don't care what's facing back...

    Tint Removal

I do need a new windshield in the car. Might just let the same shop do the tint too. A while ago I bought a travel sized garment steamer at a thrift store. I wasn't sure why I had bought it until now.

Any idea how I can remove some window tint without scraping away my rear defroster?

    Strobes or Incandescent?

If I ever stop hurting myself, the '79 Ford C600 will be a flatbed toy hauler. I have a 70" jetstream set aside for it.

    Help - Whelen Flash Patterns

Thank you all. I've decided to go with the Comet pattern. It gives me a better "footprint" before switching colors (one of the dual heads I'm using is R/B). On the driver I'm using, it also requires less wiring, so that's good.

    Help - Whelen Flash Patterns

I'm wiring up my first set of Whelen strobes (not LED). I have four options - Single, Double, Comet, or Action. Single and Double are pretty easy to figure out. What are Comet and Action, though? When I Google it I get flash patterns within single LED heads and I am working with vintage...

    Hidden Gem

We went hopping around a few thrift stores, antique malls, and indoor flea market type businesses today. I'm not sure why I did it, but I got on all fours and looked in the bottom shelf in a seller's area. I saw a hunk of black metal that felt heavy enough to be lead. It was tagged $20. When...

Vintage Frankenstein-ed lights, beacons and light bars.

Well when I die, the next guy is gonna be upset that most of the wires are not color coded. ;) Ha actually a silver bullet (type a) full of water, a silver bullet full of foam, and two Dry Chem ABC's. All are full sized. ;)

    Minimum ga Strobe Wires

Thanx....if I'm running dual-head fixtures, is there any reason not to have all 6 leads in the same shielded cable?

Amber LED heads for fog lights

Most warning lights should be in the same brightness range as head and fog lamps. I don't see an issue. More than once, I've put a blue filter over standard fog lights (halogen) and ran them through wig-wag circuitry. You seem to want the same, just in reverse.

    Minimum ga Strobe Wires

Making some custom cables to rub from the driver to strobe heads. What's the minimum gauge of wire I should be using? Standard 12v Whelen equipment.

    Code 3 Model 3400 Siren

Putting this I to one of our brush trucks. Does anyone have info on the wiring for the rear connectors? The + and - screws are obvious. I just gotta know where I connect the speaker.

    CHP lights?

If you regret the purchase, I'm sure you can get $50 back out of them.

    CHP lights?

Just an observation... Red is on the left and blue on the right. That tells me, unless it was from a confused agency, it was most likely mounted facing rear. Could also mean the filters got shuffled, so that's not a "for sure" assumption. Tjey would be beautiful on the back of my Harley, no...

    Strobes - Technical

Can someone explain to me, exactly how strobes (not LED) work? The way I think, is a capacitor gets involved and then steps up the voltage. When it is at the right point, a trigger charge somehow fires it off. I mean that's the best vision I have. I'd like way more detail though. Maybe also...

    Strobes or Incandescent?

It has been a money pit in the year I have owned it, though nothing too major. The whole reason I bought it is it has a straight 6 and them motors are like impossible to kill. This may be my first vehicle that I can claim even close to "period correct" lighting on.

    Strobes or Incandescent?

Well it wound up being a mix. Two 7" red incandescent on the left. One 7" blue incandescent on the right-rear. Because those 7" Weldon lights aren't the most common in blue, and because the door would pose issues, I went with a R/B strobe on the roof above that area. I want to make the most...

    Strobes or Incandescent?

Yes, I have a few vehicles, so I like having a marked unit because it looks cool in my front yard. XD Decided to go incandescent, but may still toss a strobe in. I already had a pair R/B on hand and had ordered a pair of red to go with. Supplier only had one, so I am gonna do two reds on...
