Which of the Low Frequency Siren Systems is your favorite?

Years ago Whelen had a lower frequency electronic siren through a typical siren speaker. Wail just did not geto the higher frequency which other sirens produced. (Not Howler oRumbler through a loudspeaker.) The Federal Signal Q2 with 15? ports would be.tter if 6 ports. At peak rpm, the...

Whelen Cencom powers one or two speakers from the same terminals. How?

When siren amplifiers have [COM] [100] [200] terminals, is that not a 200 W maximum output? Fused at 20-amps which would be necessary for 200 watts at 13.8 VDC. Why does Whelen not reveal the wattage? Thank you.

Whelen Cencom powers one or two speakers from the same terminals. How?

Thank you. Thanks also for the 33 Vrms. I have not had time to find and connect my oscilloscope. The issue is if the amplifier puts out 200 Watts into a single 100-watt coil, will it overdrive the coil and burn it out? Otherwise, why have 100 and 200 watterminals? Two 11-ohm drivers in...

Are compact siren speakers with short sound paths efficient?

Wish we could measure dB output at 100 feet with a meter and compare. Wilhave to see whathe UnderPro speakers are. Am considering replacing the Whelen SA315s with Federal Signal TS100s with longer cones from CP100s. If I had CP100s, I would remove thexterior chrome bell and use justhe interior...

Whelen Cencom powers one or two speakers from the same terminals. How?

Yes. But 200 watts powering a 100-watt driver can burn it out. Sirens had [COM] [100] [200] terminalso that a 100-watt driver is not connected to a 200-watt output.

Whelen Cencom powers one or two speakers from the same terminals. How?

Whelen CenCom Other sirens have [COM] [100] [200] terminals. This has only two wires. One speaker is 11 ohms impedance. Two in parallel create 5.5 ohms impedance. Does Whelen detect 11 ohms and reduces power to 100 watts? If 5.5 ohms the amplifier produces 200 Watts? Or is their output really...

Are Two Speakers Better than One?

Unitrol 800 which I wired in parallel to two Federal Signal TS100s. Big drivers, then. The Unitrol was not cutting off at 400 Hz (or whatever the cut-off frequency) and that apparently caused a coil to burn out. I corrected the cut-off and while there added some capacitance to slow the Yelp a...

    SOS 380R wont turn off.....

Is there a broken wire or plug causing intermittency? Presumably an instruction turns it On, and another instruction turns it Off. If not getting the turn-off instruction, it will remain on?

"STL"? "TK7180"? As a ham radioperator I may be able to help if I knew. Thank you.

Are Two Speakers Better than One?

The 3 dB difference can be heard a little further away. Better to have one louder tone through two speakers than two less loud tones each through its own speaker. We had a 100-watt speaker burn out during a response. Good thathere was a 2nd speaker and thankful the 2nd speaker did not burn out...

Are compact siren speakers with short sound paths efficient?

How can compact siren speakers project as far as reentrant exponentiahorn speakers whose sound path is much more gradual in diameter and longer? Does the gradually-increasing sound path diameter couple the sound energy to air better? Has anyone done tests to measure the dB output from different...

Wow! Thank you, Mounting Man. (Just being mean.) Your diodes is a good idea! Better safe than sorry. This will be easier than expected.

Two Different Speakers, Slightly Different Sounds?

Thank you. I'd like to reverse polarity just to hear how much cancellation occurs! Always wondered how much cancellation occurs where the sound is reflected in the reentrant cone. Reflects twice before leaving the speaker.

    Heard a fire apparatus collision?

Way off in the distance, their Q2 siren was still at high rpms when it instantly went silent. What did the apparatus run into which crushed the siren and jammed the rotor? It was an eQ2 siren switched off. (At that time I did not know an eQ2 existed.)

Two Different Speakers, Slightly Different Sounds?

^ Correct. How does one discern phasing? We must rely on + and - being consistant?

Seek schematic of Federal Signal Unitrol 480K

If not too difficult, I'd like to create a small hand-held box on the end of a cable so passenger seat occupant can hold the box and switch the 480K to different sounds as though turning the 480k head's rotary switch. MANUAL - WAIL - YELP - HILO Or is that 3(?)-level rotary switch custom...
