Fireball - proper bulb and fast motor?

I'd need to check my collection, but I don't believe the FB11 had a worm drive, just a motor shaft that spun against a shallow cup about 3" in diameter. By adding the proper diameter vacuum or washer hose, or a piece of heat shrink tubing on the motor shaft, you could increase the flash rate...

    Vintage Catalogs: KD Lamp Co.

I've a four beam KD rotating beacon advertised as a hill light. Your post identifies it as a wobble light. Is this one and the same? Only wobble light I'm familiar with is a Sirenoy 3 beam red and white rotator where the white light moved up and down as the light rotated.

I wake up and see this today

That'd definitely be a good neighborhood to not be in. You need to sandbag the interior of your house, say, halfway up the windows.

Cheap and Easy was to mount a light to your headliner....

Friends, be aware coat hangers come in different grades, from flimsy to heavy duty. If you really wanted to go heavy duty, a length of uncoated welding road would work, but you might have to overlap two sticks to get enough length.

How many light bars do you have in your collection?

Is there a way of searching Face Book Market like feeBay, or is it pretty much what you accidentally find?

    Crown Rick Auto

I've seen some apparently good serviceable stuff he has found on/in the cars. Stuff the taxpayers paid good money for, that the user of the car was too lazy to thoroughly look for before turning the car in and will have to be replaced at taxpayer expense. No wonder the whole state is going bankrupt.

    1st generation SVP-1168 Pancake comparison

I agree. Don't understand why Star took a product that had good proformance and reputation, then ruined it by changing the design. Redesign and changing the tooling costs money. Better to have left well enough alone and charged a little more. Putting the motor on the base and trimming the...

Unity / Whelen RV26 (MSP led beacon)

If you knew exactly how much current the light draws when all diodes are activated, and the number of diodes, you should be able to come close to their wattage. You'd need to allow for a little consumption by the flasher.

    Repairing a dashlight

If it's just the cigarette lighter plug, check eBay for replacement plugs. I'm not familiar with this light, but if it's strobe or LED, it may be polarity sensitive, and if hooked up backwards, may destroy the electronics.

Wail v. Yelp- really make any difference?

I've found the real, old fashioned air horn tends to get their attention better than electronic sirens of any tone, but you still need to use sirens to signal your need for the right of way. And it's required by law.

    Ammo preference

One of the major issues the FBI was concerned with was penetration out the back of the suspect, with potential injury to bystanders, thus the preferred limit on penetration.

If I might ask a dumb question, if it can't be heard in the cab, how can motorists hear it so well?

Lens, dome etc cleaning and polishing

For those domes and covers that have black rattle can paint on them, try applying plain brake fluid. In 24 hours, you can wipe most of the paint off. Repeat if necessary. Haven't had any issues with damage to Federal Signal plastic domes. Then you can decide if you want to wet sand or polish. I...

    Michigan state police lighting

Looks like it'd work, but this apparently would only work on lights using 400 series lens. They should look at something that could be retro-fitted to other LED lights commonly in use. Like, for instance, the MSP LED beacon, or the L31 and 32 lights.

    Michigan state police lighting

You get a snow block illuminated from within. I believe it was Whelen was looking into an electric heater mounted inside the lights to address the problem. Never heard if it was placed into production. I'd think that it would negate some of the LED advantages. Probably would have to run an extra...

    Michigan state police lighting

The refitted light would have been better if the LEDs had been in an 8 or 16 sided frame and arranged in vertical rows, set up electronically to closely simulate a rotating beacon. They could have included white LEDs in the mix under a clear dome to simulate the Spitfire.

Wail v. Yelp- really make any difference?

Don't know about studies, but I'm of the opinion that some wouldn't move even if the emergency vehicle was allowed to tap them lightly. People are so oblivious to their surrounding when driving, especially to the rear.

Who made the best rotating halogen dash light?

You'll need a right angle DPDT switch and a 50 ohm 2 watt resistor. That's all it takes to turn it into a dual speed, but it must have the high speed motor.

Saw a picture of a unit just like this that some guys had converted into a party boat. Milwaukee had been painted over.
