    Official Junk, Overpriced, etc. Thread

Yeah I bought a Firebeam from him a couple years ago and got it for a great price but $650 plus shipping for a used model 14 is a tad above market value.

I've seen the same SVP 1166, 1168 and 1185 dash lights that have been listed for sale on Ebay for going on THREE YEARS now because their price is so extortionately outrageous. They're literally going on their 3rd year on Ebay and I can only guess the seller is waiting for that one stupid person...

Two of my red Fire Ball lenses are a slightly different shade from the other. One is a first gen model and the other a second gen and one lens is noticeably darker than the other. I noticed the Fire Ball has two shades of green as well. I also have several SVP 1166 teardrop lights with numerous...

    Fireball 12 Volt Strobe

Those smooth Fireball II strobes are the same 'FSC11' lense the halogen rotating model uses. They have an internal fluted insert to dissipate the flash.

Last July I offered a mere $30 for a beautiful condition SVP HotShot II with a red lense, never expecting them to actually accept but they DID! With $10 shipping it cost just $40 delivered to my door. It's the SVP version with the aluminum riveted label. I have one with the foil type adhesive...

I don't know how BH sells anything as blurry as his photos are. Some of his items are actually pretty nice and you'd think he'd include better images.

For Sale SVP Hotshot 1175H, red, full cord.

You may be thinking of the model 1185 HotShot II. That model tends to go for a higher amount.

    1st generation SVP-1168 Pancake comparison

I always wondered why they chose to use two independent strain relief bushings on the S&W L-11 instead of just one like most other lights use. Not sure if there was a reason for it or if it was just to be different. Numerous times now I've bid on S&W L-11's but have never gotten one (boo-hoo). A...

    1st generation SVP-1168 Pancake comparison

I don't know exactly when the metal-to-plastic design change actually occurred. After looking through my collection of SVP 1168 pancake lights the newest one in my inventory was made in 1994 but I know they didn't change to plastic until sometime after STAR purchased the line because SVP never...

Found a clear dome for my SVP-1166 teardrop... finally

I can still get a new purple dome but I really don't care for that color. I'm very content with amber, red, blue, green & clear. I bought new blue and green domes from STAR last year but noticed the green is noticeably lighter compared to the older green domes from years ago. My newest blue dome...

    NOS Teardrop

I bought one of these last year via Ebay and was rather disappointed with it. It was NOS and was a beautiful light (blue) but the focal point was AWFUL. It came with a 35-watt 1195 bulb so I swapped it out with a 50-watt 795X and, although brighter, the focal point was still terrible. Don't know...

    Vintage Catalogs: Smith & Wesson

We had some of those S&W bars in the mid to late 80's and it was always interesting to me how they used standard rectangular automobile headlamps for the front takedown and rear flashers. That would have made replacing them inexpensive and easy to source. I don't see it included in this catalog...

What is a true manufacturing company? Is It Star/SVP?

This is a hard question to answer (for me) because while I'm not a big fan of their halogen revolving lights, I've never used their LED products but hear they're very good. I don't think it would be fair to rate them based solely on the one or two halogen products I'm familiar with.

    Green Light Thread

The Tripp-Lite lens shown here looks to be a deeper shade of green than they had in the 80's and 90's, which originally had a more "emerald" appearance to it.

Wanted Federal Fireball 2 Amber or Clear Dome

In the 80's and early 90's clear and amber Fire Ball II lenses were everywhere and if I would've known how rare they would become I would have acquired loads of them because in those days they were both plentiful and cheap but that's the way it always works. We only used red lenses in the FD...

    Green Light Thread

One thing I've always liked about Federal Signal and Tripp Lite green lenses is the shade of green they use(d). Don't know if they still use the same shade on their current lights but I know in the 80's and 90's their green lenses had somewhat of a teal tint to them. Whelen, S&W, Code-3, SVP...

That's a great collection of multi-colored 1166's. Only one you're missing is PURPLE. Although this color didn't come out until later on, it is a genuine S.O. VP lens. Don't know if they're still available though.

At some point in our lives I think we've all known someone like that security guy. Perhaps using an amber lens was too degrading for him, which may be why he used clear but I've never seen anyone use all clear lenses before. That's dedication when you install a full lightbar on your POV! I've...

Is that red Fire Ball in the picture the same NOS first-gen model that sold a couple weeks ago on Ebay? If so, I followed that auction but I knew it would go beyond my personal budget, although I must say it didn't go as high as I thought it would. The flash hood looks a lot cleaner from the...

I would imagine clear-domed teardrop lights might be used in conjunction with other colored teardrop lights, such as in a permanent mount installation. Mind you, I've never seen a multi-teardrop installation but aside from that I don't know what else a clear lens teardrop would be used for...

The Vitalite models you have are my favorite version (ones without a metal frame overhead). Personally, I think the ones you have look nicer versus the metal framed version.

Join the club. Was just telling dmathieu the only clear Fire Ball lenses I've ever seen are HIS. Clear lenses are rare for the SVP-1166 but are uber-rare for the Fire Ball.
