I have a 07 silverado new body style and I am getting ready to install a custom console. I have the full front seat with an open floor and am wondering what the best way is to fasten the console. Can I use a self tap screw into the floor or is there wiring etc that would be under the carpet? Thanks in advance.

Any installer who's worth their salt will tell you, NEVER drill without verifying what is on BOTH SIDES of the surface to be drilled through. That includes self taping screws. Pull the floor liner/carpet and verify.

I had no plans to blindly drill. Perhaps I should have made that clear. I was mainly looking for ideas on what people used in this type vehicle.

OK, just making sure. I've had friends/co-workers accidentialy drill into everything from a wire harness to a driveshaft. Just use caution.

There is a flat area of the transmission hump that is about 11 x 12". Cut a piece of 3/4" plywood to size and slip in under the carpet, then screw through the carpet into the plywood only. The carpet will hold the plywood in place and the equipment will mount securely. If you later change things, you usually can't see the holes in the carpet and there are no holes in the hump to leak or rust.
