This is another one of our specialty projects we were able to take part in. It is one we finished back in September, but we are just now getting around to posting it.
This 1941 Mack truck came to as with a wiring nightmare. Over the last 70 + years, this vehicle had new lights, different motors and different transmissions. All of which were adapted to fit into the rig and tapped into the wiring system to make them work.
The lighting was pretty much non functional when we got it. The headlights worked when you looked at them correctly, the rotorays lights did not work, the spot light was broken, the turn signals did not function, and there were many engine controls that did not work. Not to mention all the switches were corroded.
Our shop came highly recommended as the place to get all of this redone because we are a rare shop that not only builds are own harness systems with ultrasonic welders and wiring printing machines, but also perform both emergency vehicle up fits and hot rod re-wires. This project was a mash up of both of those industries.
The current power train is a 350 V8 from a 1988 Suburban. It actually runs pretty good!
We started by gutting the unit, taking stock of all the different items that needed to get hooked up.
We then redesigned a complete harness system that matched the vehicle and everything on it.
While the harness department was building this harness, we rebuilt all the lighting, cleaned up the Siren, and built a new switch panel.
I wish I had more pictures of the process, because it would really show how we do this. This was not done as a "pull wire to the point" build; it is a full custom harness that is placed into the vehicle eliminating the rats nest wiring mess.
