Here's an install I did for one of my friends in the Fire Department. It's very simple and he may add some things in the future as funds allow. Enjoy...

LIGHTING

FRONT:

2 Whelen Blue TIR6's in the grille

1 Whelen 5mm Slimlighter above RVM

REAR:

2 Whelen Blue TIR3's at the headliner

MISC EQUIPMENT:

Sho-Me LED Flasher

All lights hardwired to LED rocker switch on console

After everything was installed and tested, black wire loom was added on all exposed wiring.

Now, the pics...

Nice setup!

Until I saw your grille, I didn't know that Whelen made TIR6's for vertical mounting. I found PDF here: http://www.whelen.com/install/137/13733.pdf

Can you say more about how the TIR6's are attached to the grille?

Sure Jeff...

I used metal from a license plate blank for the backing. It was cut into 1" strips long enough to span across the "mesh" portion of the grille and have an anchor point on the firmer plastic. The center was punched and drilled for the stainless screw to pass through from the front. Stainless lock washers and nuts were secured from the rear, essentially creating a "sandwich" effect between the flange and the backing, which results in holding the TIR head in place. I opted for the strips vs. stainless fender washers due to the thin plastic grille between the framework, I just wanted a more solid mount as shown in this closeup

I like how you mounted the TIR6's. Thanks for explaining what you did. I'm impressed.

Anytime...and Thank you! I did forget to mention that the backing strips did have to be painted satin black so they had that factory look.

Thanks for all the great comments everyone...

Another blue liberty with blue lights! I like it, I have been thinking of doing the rear lights in the headliner, what did you mount them to? Perhaps a closer picture :D

The TIR3's were mounted directly to the plastic headliner via the use of "L" brackets as seen in the photo below. Then the light head was adjusted slightly to be level and at the proper angle.

Do you have a HLF?
no HLF...not allowed with Blue lights in the great Commonwealth of PA.

HLF not allowed, but I believe strobes can be used. Its very easy in the taillights, as there is a bulb hole in which there is no bulb. In the front I would put them in the turn signals, not the headlights because they are so round, and I dont know how they would do in there. Looks good, I will try the rear tir3s eventually.

excerpts taken from the Pa Vehicle code...pay close attention to the last two sentences...HLF's and Strobes are a no-no in PA. Do some of us have them? Maybe? Is it a big deal? Depends on where you live in the state.

§4572. Visual signals on authorized vehicles.

(a) Flashing or revolving blue lights.--Ambulance personnel, volunteer firefighters and owners and handlers of dogs used in tracking humans may each equip one motor vehicle with no more than two flashing or revolving blue lights.

§ 173.3. Display requirements.

(3) Blue lights. A vehicle may display blue lights as provided for by 75 Pa.C.S. § 4572(a) (relating to visual signals on authorized vehicles). Vehicles described in 75 Pa.C.S. § 4572(a) may be equipped with a light-bar assembly using only blue lights.

(iii) Flashing, revolving or oscillating white or clear lights and flashing headlamp systems may only be used in conjunction with the flashing or revolving red or combination red-and-blue lights. Flashing, revolving or oscillating white or clear lights and flashing headlamp systems that are not used in conjunction with flashing or revolving red or combination red-and-blue lights do not constitute visual signals under 75 Pa.C.S. § § 3325 and 4571

(3) Authorized vehicles.

(ii) The installation or use of additional flashing or strobe lights in existing vehicular lighting modules/assemblies, such as headlights, parking lights, taillights, is expressly prohibited.

Wow! They need to chill out a little in PA. They should learn from NJ who allows Blue/white and air horns. I dont think the lawmakers realise its a life we are talking about. Ill bet if their house was burning down they would want the VFF to get there very fast.

Oh sorry about that. I was just going off of what someone else had told me. Yes it does matter where you live in the state, but I believe strobes are more acceptable than HLF for some reasons. Yes VolEms they should learn some things from NJ but we need other audible warning due to traffic congestion issues. An airhorn and a siren are interpreted differently by drivers, and it would be much easier if they would let us use one. I think that will come in the future though. Also technically in NJ were not supposed to incorperate any light into an existing headlight housing, but that is a thing of the past. They have however changed the law so people have to pull over, and treat us as an emergency vehichle even though we are not technically one.

A very simple yet very effective set up. I like the mounting for the TIR-6's in the grille. I like the simple set up for the switch someplace easy to find, and notice IF it is on or off when on the road... I would throw a couple more TIR-3's or 6"s in the rear side windows IF you would park at the scene or come acoss someting so you could park at an angle to prtect yourself, but that is just me!

Wig wags or a TLF would rock also but I understand the law IS the law.
