2007 Explorer sold. Acquired 2012 Explorer: New install coming.

Updated: This is my Explorer and the 7th setup in 2 years I think. This is by far my favorite, now. I use this for fire dept. I removed the Vertex and the plastic cosmetic piece they were attached to. Put the Vertex in the rear lights and sold the HAWs that were there. Also painted my wheels black because I have always wanted black wheels and $35 on supplies beats a few hundred on new wheels. Added the new SOS Intersectors. Theyre a PITA to install (ask Jeremy, txfire914). Since Explorer bases are not made for the light we had to use the universal one which works alright but you can see that the light is at an angle. We are still trying to brainstorm on fixing it. Despite that issue, I like the Intersectors more than the Vertex. More effective I think. (Keeping old pictures in for reference) Equipped as follows:

Front:

Fed Sig ILS

Sound Off Ultralite 4 head R/B (swapped heads with U8 to make it work)

Fed Sig 4 HAW Strobes

Sides:

Fed Sig Impaxx

SOS Intersectors

Fed Sig Viper S2

Rear:

Sound Off 8 Module Ultralite (U8)

Whelen Vertex x4

Controller/Other:

SS2000 pushing dual Whelen SA314 speakers (behind lower chrome plastic)

Unitrol Omega 90 pushing dual Fed Sig Dynamax ES100 speakers

Kenwood TK880 radio

Dual Antenex Phantom Elites

I know those vertex work good for weird applications, but im not sure if i like the running board app. Thats just my personal preference. But, looks good, did you cut the tint around the sides? Nice work.

I am pretty much only a fan of Vertex in running board area. Some light assemblies are alright but mostly not. I love them for where they are. In person they just blow anything else out of the water. When I had my tint installed after this current setup, I had them cut the tint around the rear light and rear side window lights.

That is an awesome truck. Why did you decide to get rid of the dash light?

I wanted to go a little more lo profile and the viper s2 really just stuck out on the dash. plus I already had a lot of light in the front. so far it is working great how i have it.

Very nice install. I did the same on a 2010 Sienna I put 2 vertex surface mount on the running board. Everyone in my Squad likes it. I did one white and one red on each side.

Klein, I think I'm going to be replacing my Jetta with an Explorer very similar to yours in the next few weeks. I have a few questions for you,

-Hows your actual gas mileage on both city/highway?

-Hows the reliability?

-Any issues?

I do sorta miss the Liberty as well.

made you didnt read all of it, he already has 2 speakers behind the grill. he kinda had to put those out there

Thanks. Exactly. I have tried many times to mount them somewhere else to conceal them but there just is not enough metal/secure-enough places to mount them to.

Few more questions for ya. Where did you mount the power supplies and what not? Any reason you chose to use HAWs in the headlights/taillights as opposed to Vertex or something similar? I'm trying to decided if I should go the HAW or LAW route with my Explorer. Also, how hard was it to wire those vertex on the running board? I hope you don't mind but I'm gonna be cloning your vehicle when I get my Explorer! That brush guard is gonna look reaaal nice

Since I have the single bench seat in the rear and not two, there are two storage compartments in the back, one deeper than the other (deeper one directly behind the bench) and that is where my smart siren amp, Omega 90, strobe pack, wiring is located. There is a plastic wall between that compartment and the area underneath the bench and I just drilled several 2" holes for ventilation and wiring routing. I like the pop that a strobe has and that pretty much the main reason. Also money. I already had one strobe pack so I just needed one more for the front (the fed sig model that can be mounted in the engine compartment and only power/control wire ran to controller). I like the Axixtech TRIs and the new SOS HAW led so I may upgrade sometime down the road but right now I like my strobes. Vertexes were a cake walk. The plastic is thin and there are plenty of options on how to run the wires to the front. I have the wires tapped into the wires for the front LEDS. The brush guard will just need a new paint job and bam...brand new! There are multiple holes to mount stuff to it

If I had the money I would swap the Vertexes for the SOS LEDs since they do dual color. I would do R/B for each one. That would be McNasty!

I think the running board vertex's are brilliant. So small but what a punch they pack, at least in that lighting. Awesome job.

Also..

If I had the money I would swap the Vertexes for the SOS LEDs since they do dual color. I would do R/B for each one.

They do make split vertex's now, as an fyi. :)
