Built this 2010 Ford Explorer for one of my regular departments as an unmarked unit used by a supervisor/detective. Most of the equipment (the Whelen stuff) was supplied by the department, so I didn't have a choice on that stuff. Also, the department didn't want to spring for aftermarket consoles/inserts, so I had to use a concealed lights/siren control system.

Enjoy!

Whelen D6 Dominator / rear hatch glass

Ive done something simular. We have a window tinter come in and put a thin stripe across where the front upper windshield not much more than the size of the light

Very neat. Good work.

Still, this is a lot of lights for a detective car.

You should try chiseling it around the gas tank... They will remember you forever that way!

Seriously though, excellent job. I am weirded out by PDs only using blue though - it is just not something that i am used to.

Hell, in Louisiana, they use I've seen 'em run all red, all blue, or a healthy mix of both. It can be quite confusing at times....

In my area it's pretty simple and sometimes I think an unwritten rule of thumb:

police (all blue and/or blue/white)

sheriff (red/blue and red/red)

Fire (all red)

Medic (red and red/amber)

Marshals / metro (all blue and/or blue/clear)

I find it really weird seeiing blue on fire rigs in other states, but then again I found it weird seeing all red for a Sheriffs department locally! When they switched to Red/Blue I was relieved![/quote:3cgw80h0]

Louisiana recently enacted a law that would allow blue on the back of fire apparatus, effective by the end of August. See "Professional" section.

Virginia allows blue or red/blue lights on cop cars, but the majority of cop cars use all-blue. (White lights are used as well but they're becoming less common with newer LED conversions) So seeing all blue on a cop car is no big deal.

If there's anything that seems kinda "off" for me, it's just that there isn't a stripe - there isn't any relevant law in Virginia but generally if there's an emblem and high-visibility text there's a contrasting reflective stripe, or two-tone paint job, as well.

here in vermont all law enforcement uses blue and or blue/white , fire/ems uses red and or red/white , and border patrol is red/blue and amber is unregulated

nice job,yet another great install

Why did you choose to go with a Pinnacle interior instead of a Whelen one? Would an Inner Edge work on the Explorer?

Thank you fellas. I love sharing what I do with people that can appreciate it. Now if I could only get the company I work for on board......

Maybe, cajun does awesome work.
I don't dispute that. I just get irked when something this old gets bumped for no good reason. If he had a question or something even mildly constructive to add, I wouldn't be bothered. Sure, I look at old posts time and again but I sure as heck won't revive them without reason.

Easy now hoss. Bumping an old thread does no harm and I'm sure they were searching for something and ran across this thread and posted without realizing how old it was.
