Most still in service... some retired. In service ones I still maintain and test. I'll try to give info on them (mind you I deal with 300 some odd trucks throughout the year, can't remember them all!) Enjoy, I'll post 'em as I catch 'em...

I can remember many of our rural companies in Maryland having large cisterns placed throughout their response areas. These often caught drainage from the roofs of firehouses, larger buildings or parking lots. I can also remember having to haul water from hydrant areas to fill them when there was a drought.

Same lid - different contents in the tank.

I love that big Ford in the first pic, brings back memories of when I was a volly firefighter. My station had one just like it with a Twin sonic CTS! I also really like that 1948 Chevy, needs a Beaconray though. Thank for posting the pics! I look forward to more.

Sorry folks... we don't pump septics! You'll notice that cover in a lot of my pics, that is the front half of our test pit. It's an old fuel tank (about 20,000 gal) 2/3 full of water. What you don't see is the other half. We have a shed, with permanent stand, that we bolt an Akron 3 inlet master stream to and piped to blow the water stream back into the tank. We can test up to 1500gpm on this set up. 2000gpm trucks, we need to go to a remote test site. More pics tonight!

Engine 1 and 31 are just tough looking. Those type are the "face of rural firefighting" I remember growing up.

I had the gag reflex when I first saw it. StreetHawk's are not my favorite bar, and the homemade cap doesn't do the truck justice. We had a '67 M-715 in town I'd done an engine swap on, metal cab conversion (previously done by former member) that I'd mounted a TwinSonic short on. I still have the lightbar... truck long gone. One grainy photo exists which I'll try scanning someday.

That is the first Ward LaFrance fire engine I've seen with a low profile cab.

All the aerials I've seen pics of had the cut down cab. We'd had a '72 pumper with the normal cab, and what I saw of this was they cut out the section low where the bottom windshields would be. The Unity ALF is also a low profile cab.

I love it when an FD doesn't repaint the surplus vehicle they get. It's like "we're gonna sneak up on the fire in our camo truck."

When this comes up the road, do you say, "Look; lights from China?"

I like the Arundel unit. Haven't seen a Howe firetruck in many years. Is that a doubletone siren on the fender? Hard to tell from the angle.
I have no idea, we'd had a busy day... it was a quick pic before we made the 1 1/2 hour ride home. It'll probably be another year before I get back down there.

It looks like there are two speakers behind the bumper.

I think you're seeing the two chrome tow hooks hanging down. It's only got an electronic siren, got one black speaker behind the bumper... FS I believe.
