As I was in NY today- I received a rather disturbing email- there was reports of a plane with large amounts of smoke- going down near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (Canada's Capital- where Parliament is)

As more news filtered in I was calling friends who work in the area, and they confirmed there was multiple 911 calls regarding this, and it was seen also by a few police officers on the highway. Updates reporting it was a small plane- probably a single prop.

Than more reports came in that it had in fact crash landed, (in a field next to a school) and two people were seen outside the plane, walking around it.

So, once I got back into Canada, I start googlin' and find this:

OTTAWA — A smoking model plane caused emergency crews to scramble around the west end of the city this afternoon after a call came in for reports of a plane crash.

The reported crash turned out to be a model plane flying at the Ottawa Remote Control Club on Moodie Drive. The plane had smoke that is used for show coming out of it.

Police, fire services and EMS went to the scene of a reported possible small plane crash at Fallowfield Road and Highway 416 just after 12:30 p.m.

The fire service said they were planning to do a fly-over having found nothing after about 20 minutes of searching on the ground.

Probably the worst possible day to be flying a model plane IMO...

(this is in no way meant to detract from the US 9/11- just cannot scared the crap out of me when I got the first email..)
