Grabbed this off the rack to snap a few pics for @Stampeed Valkyrie. While I had it down figured I shoot a quick video w ~new domes I made awhile back out of some NOS panels I had. Can't decide if I like the clear/amber centers on this short a bar. Also realized after making video that the driver side rear sealed beam a higher watt bulb than others so stands out a bit. Will probably add a flasher but now see I have the same "where will it fit and still look right" issue that Stampeed identified/is exploring in his thread.

I think I may have a solution but I need to test it.

Those bulkhead mirrors really kill the flash on the inner rotators... It's more profound on these short bars.

Completely agree. I much prefer the 52" bars for flash patterns for that reason and just because there's 2-6 more rotators depending on the model (well, not counting the 24C). Not an earth shattering opinion/observation but it's definitely obvious on the shorter bars and especially the S.

What was the purpose of the bulkhead mirrors?
The alley lights block the flash of the rotators to each side. The mirrors were the attempt to get around that problem and create some side/very off-axis warning. You only see bulkhead mirrors on bars with alley lights.

In my personal opinion, Federal dropped the ball on that idea. If they wanted to do the off-axis warning, they should have made the inner bulkhead that faces the rotators chrome-coated, or at least fit a polished aluminum template to the inner bulkhead so that the effect could be achieved without blocking the inner rotators and reducing front/rear warning power.

The Aerodynic was a really good idea from Federal Signal, but end lights and especially alley lights really hurt it's capabilities when viewed from the ends of the bar.

Perhaps we can create a myth that the engineer who designed the bulkhead mirrors was subsequently placed in "off-axis lighting purgatory". There his career languished for many years until, one day, he came up with the idea for the Vector.
