Some pretty amazing pictures from a CF-18 plane crash in Lethbridge, Alberta yesterday. The pilot safely and successfully ejected suffering minor injuries after being dragged down the runway.

INCREDIBLE PICTURES!

More incredible that the pilot suffered only minor injuries. Thank God for ejection seats.

Or thank Martin-Baker for zero-zero ejection seats.

That's one of those things you cant practice. Punching out would be bad enough, but to do it at that altitude and speed while upside-down and hoping the things works as advertised takes stones. But it beats the alternative.

I always wondered what happens to the career of a pilot that wrecks a multimillion dollar aircraft. Do you get another one, or are you stuck flying a desk until retirement?

depends on if its pilot error or machine failure.

i was hearing a guy talk about ejecting from a plane once... air force...

...and now he's the president of Hampden-Sydney College.

No setbacks there. (He did fly again after the crash)

awsome pics, thanks for sharing!!!

It may be just the angle of the photo, but generally speaking big gouts of flames out of just one engine is pretty indicative of a mechanical problem. Regardless, he'll have to put up with lawn dart jokes for the rest of his career

im prior AF and ive known many and many pilots that have punched out and many go on to keep on flying after 2 or 3 ejections

it all depends on what the cercumstances are of the ejection.

From what I am hearing it was an engine failure and one of the afterburners was glowing red-hot. So it sounds like mechanical issues.
