Saw the ad, but never the light. Looks like a McDonald Arneson 4 way flasher on an extendable pole (similar to motorcycle mount) through the vehicle roof. Cool

The patent was filed in 1952 and granted in 1956 but the ad is from 1953 which is a proof of that manufacturers started to sell products prior approval.
At least in this case but I think most manufacturers did so.

Quite a common practice, hence many products get released with the phrase "patent pending" attached to them.
