Attention Radio Techs! Please help identify...

Okay, I just picked up my latest restoration project from the state of Washington. It's a 1990 Caprice 9C1 that belonged to corrections it's entire career. I am hoping someone can tell me what kind of radio this had in it based on the "brain" mount in the trunk and the plugs. Take a look, any input would be helpful:

syntor X9000. I still service a few of those. All they did was take out the trunk unit , control head and speaker

Nope different mounting tray and the spectra has a DB25 end on the cable the only thing the same is the head and speaker bracket

Yeah, my bad wrong connector... I knew I recognized that connector from a spectra, but it's to connect a sys9000 siren amp...

Yes, Motorola Syntor, probably to a Syntor XX or 9000 control head. You do not want to cut the cable, since you would need to replace the entire wiring harness. That rectangular connector made installation a real kick in the a**.


I still have keys to the trunk slide out tray somewhere, but we haven't used any of these in about twelve years.

Technically, yes. Specific for that actual car/dept use, not sure.

The key was to lock down the radio to the trunk tray (or something of the sort) Dunno why thou, its as heavy as a boat anchor- you would need a forklift to move it! :lol:


Oh, and DO NOT buy that radio, its WAY overpriced, IMO. Best to ask over at batlabs, guys there have "rooms" full of these bad boys. :twisted:


If you ever "ham" it up around 10 and 6 meters (30mhz to 50mhz) you would do yourself a favor by picking one of those up in that band. Apparently they are worth their weight in gold on the low band stuff. Very very stable from what I hear, and able to handle the "large" frequency split- without any magical blue smoke. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_smoke

Bottom line- if you can RX or TX low band in your area- find one!
