Best Grill Lights for the price

I am seeking some input on the subject of grill lights. I know some are brighter than others and everyone certainly has their preference on certain brands. I was just wondering what everyone else thought about this. An example that i am currently considering (and i am certainly not trying to say anything good or bad about anyone's brand) is whelen ion's vs pimp pods. Are the Whelen Ion's that much brighter than the pods? (Again i am not sure that they are as i have not seen either one in person) But for the price, I can buy 4 6led pimp pods for the price of 2 Whelen Ion's (roughly). Anyone have any input???? I am considering this for a current project i'm working on and have narrowed the selection between - Star VersaStar's, Whelen Ion's, Pimp Pods, Strobes'n'more E6, Sound off Ghosts,

Whelen TIR 6, etc....

Your choice of lights is still mixing Linear and TIR types, and Linear will be most satisfactory for the majority of installations. When you are looking at long distance warning staight on, then IMHO TIR 6 lights will be be detectable just a little earlier. But close in and for general use, linear optics distribute the warning signal better.

From the viewpoint of cost, the Pimp Pods should win out.

if you want to put them outside the grill, get 2 whelen m6's or 700 series perhaps

if you want to go inside get 4 whelen tir6

you would want to use a light with a larger footprint as its a big truck

I 100% agree with the large light theory, but the problem is that it is a 6.5L Diesel and there is about 3/4 of an inch between the grill and the radiator. No room for anything behind it and I don't necessiarly want to put anything on the outside of the grill. The reason I am considering those lights is due to the fact that they will fit in between the plastic cross members of the grill.

Back to the main point though, anyone have input on the output vs cost situation at hand. I understand the bigger the light, the larger the footprint. But what about the comparision of the lights?

I know, saw a video of your truck on another thread and it looks great. After seeing the phantom starburst on your truck, I think im sold on it. Let me know what you think of it!

The most applications I use and recommend the SoundOff XP63. It is a around the same money as the Ghosts, has a larger footprint and is very versatile in mounting. I haven't had any problems that I can think off with them and I have sold/installed well over a hundred. My PD alone has sixty or more in service right now.

Also look at the Axixtech SE4, XS4 and the MS6BH, if you want to go a little larger then XL6 and XL9 for surface mount.

As for price vs brightness, most lights are using essentially the same LEDs these days so the difference is in how hard the LEDs are driven to their max or close to max output.

Case in point, Whelen Vertex HAL has six 3 watt LEDs, they are driven at about 1.6 - 1.8 watts, so half output. The Axixtecg T.R.I. has nine 3 watt LEDs, they are driven at 2.2 - 2.5 watts 3/4 of their max output.

For a grill mount I tell my customers the following, go with TIR optics for behind the grill mounting and Linear optics for mounting on the surface of the grill.
