Whats up with this rotoray ?

Thought rotorays pretty much didn't do there job until the truck was in drive...

Never seen one just flashing.

"The reason it is not spinning is because when the truck is stopped with the parking brake applied the light will stop spinning for safety reasons. It only blinks when the parking brake is applied. "

Is this true ? None of my fire departments have ever had rotorays...

I've never seen a RotoRay set to flash before; they've all been set to turn off with the parking brake.

It's a cool idea. I wonder if it's multiplex.. or just a relay a set of relays. If you want a true "NFPA park kill" you need to disable the white bulb from flashing.

they have roto-ray motors in stock, there is even a retro-fit kit to convert the sealed beams to led's!

ok.........

This is a bit of a hijack...but what is the point of a rotary? I don't see how it's an effective warning device.

Oddly enough it is pretty effective. It's one of those things that a video never does justice. I'm not a huge fan of them, but a lot of apparatus around here uses them.

Willoughby FD (Lake County) has one and it was the FIRST thing that caught my eye from about 100 yards away. They are strangely effective, especially the LED versions.

Way to bring back an old thread John :p

But as soon as I saw the video, I was like "oooohhhh ohhhhh I know I know!" I just learned it from the interview. Learn something new everyday.

I cross posted this to 3 rotoray threads because I couldn't successfully merge them. Giggled the whole time with stokedness over the interview...
