Cencom sapphire wire size help

I am going to hook up my Cencom Sapphire tomorrow, and I have 12 gauge wire running to a multi fused distribution block, powering a Liberty Sx bar. I was wondering if the 12 gauge at 8-9 foot is good enough to power my Cencom and the Liberty Sx?

Whelen recommends fusing the Liberty at 30amps. A general 100 watt siren pulls on average about 8 amps, and running dual 100 watt speakers pulls 16 amps on average... The cencom instruction manual recommends fusing the entire system at 100amps... http://whelen.com/install/140/14010.pdf

A 12g wire can safely (Per Whelen) run 100amps for 3 feet. My recommendation would be to run a 4 or 6g wire and be done with it. Then there is no question about the capability of the wire. If you do go forward with the 12g wire, inevitably someone down the road will add lights to the system. It will overload the wire even more and cause a fire...

Your safest bet it to run new wire.

Good Luck,

Seth
