Cencom TA questions

Ok, so this is probably a NOOB question, but bear with me. Right now I have a SS2000-SM, and the TA wiring is very straight forward, but what about the Cencom? I like the functions of the SS2000, but I'm not a big fan of the tones. I just want to see what it would take to make the switch. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks!

I have the cencom. It's very easy to program with a USB. The wiring is very good as well. You can program the TA to fill as you go or chase each other.

Ahh, I guess my question wasn't so clear, sorry. I was referring to the wiring, not the programming of the TA. Are there 8 outputs like on the SS, or is it different? I believe I read somewhere that you need a 2 or 3 wire whelen TA, and you wire that to a couple outputs on the CC. Is this correct?

The cencom has 12 potential outputs. The CCSRN2 is the standard cencom and will run any low current traffic advisor that needs simple 12v applied to a single wire to perform left or right, etc. The CCSRNTA2 has the built in 8 lamp TA controller that will run any standard 9 wire traffic advisor ( 8 ground wires: 1 for each light head, and 1 positive wire that connects to all 8 heads). The CCSRNTA2 will control any ground-switching traffic advisor that has the cable configuration I just described.

The siren tones are programmable, as well as every single button on the control head is progarmmable. The USB function makes configuring the cencom easier than the control head procedure on the FedSig smart siren.

Food for thought. You will not regret changing to the cencom. Its just more advanced.

And yes the TA function on the CCSRN2 requires using two of the available outputs on the system, which leaves you with 10 remaining outputs. Still plenty.

Do you have the cencom with the TA 9 pins in the connector( the white 12 pin connector at top far right) version or a regular Cencom?

The regular one will not run a regular Signalmaster or similar light. You can only run a lightstick that uses

a two wire control. 1 for left, 1 for right, and both wires at the same time for center out.

Wireking,

No offense, but I just had to chime in and beg to differ about how the Cencom is easier to work with than the Smart Siren. The Smart Siren can be programmed on the spot without the use of any cables, computers, etc. In fact, programming one takes me less than one minute and that includes getting in and out of the vehicle. I never understood Cencom's wiring configuration with odd sized wiring and installer are forced to use barrier strips to keep installation clean and needs user supplied relays for some installs. The Smart Siren's wiring are all appropriately sized, nothing smaller than 16g and can reach all points in the vehicle. No extra relays also.

Touche.... Honestly, I don't really mind if it takes a few more steps to program the siren. On the contrary, I like the fact that you can make any button on the CC whatever you want. On the SS you are pretty limited on what can do what. Either way, I want to get my hands on a CC to play with sometime.
