Support Classifieds Posting suggestion

I would recommend limiting the responses from 3rd parties in a sales thread completely or actively removing posts that undermine an OPs sales thread.

There are a couple of examples off the top of my head..  and I know the people responding to the threads are attempting to be helpful...  or at best I hope they are..  but the responses pretty much undermine the thread regardless of opinion need to be regulated.

Don't like the price... PM

Don't like how the seller types out his AD.. PM

Responses should be either direct questions about the product,  or an I'll take it! post.

Anything else should be moderated or removed from the threads...

Unless the OP is being intentionally misleading or trying to scam... but that's a moderators function not a regular users function.

my .02 cents.

While I see your point I can also say, as a previous moderator, that the site staff has a great deal of work to do as is. I don't think policing classifieds for petty matters is a good use of their time. If a post is blatantly rude or the thread is in a downward spiral, absolutely a moderator should step in. A lot of it also relies on individual members taking the time to click the report button and type a short explanation of why they reported the post/thread. The site staff simple cannot be in every post, every day, all of the time. Taking the time to do so would require a full-time staff member just to approve/deny every post that is made daily.

And I totally understand the limited time and resources factor.. so in that case do as other sites do and prohibit anyone other then the OP from Posting in sale threads...

Now that is an interesting idea...I could see some real benefits to that. Only a few downsides that I can think of.  :undecided:

:goodpost:

This 100%.  We rely heavily on the reported posts to moderate the board as we simply cannot read every single post in every single thread, we do try our best though.  We all have multiple jobs outside of volunteering here and keep up as best we can.

And I totally understand the limited time and resources factor.. so in that case do as other sites do and prohibit anyone other then the OP from Posting in sale threads...
This is a thought, however we do not have a significant amount of problems compared to the amount of posts.

A very simple solution which works great on another board I frequent - just disable replies except for the original author to bump.

I agree fully that the amount of chaff in sales threads is getting ludicrous. It unnecessarily bumps pointless posts to the top and disadvantages everyone else that isn't being replied to.

Questions? Want to buy? Complaints? PM only.
