What type of connectors work best for what application? Whats the best way to weatherproof connections to prevent corrosion?

after trying the gum method...  (strip all the wire and twist it together then add gum to seal and protect) which didn't work I tried the

butt connector  alone method...

then I tried "sealable" butt connectors, and used wire taps to run one wire off another.

I have now graduated to butt connectors, heat shrink and loom where needed

It depends on where the wire is going to be run and how long i have to work on it for. If it is inside I use but connectors with heat shrink, if it is outside it is soldered with heat shrink and finished off with the proper size loom. And if I  have time I prefer to solder all connections.

When soldering I use the old telegraph tie method before applying the solder, I have never had one of these come apart.

Used to use wire nuts, roof cement, and saran wrap.

Now weather proof connectors. solder, shrink tubing.

Fully insulated connectors even inside installations.
