Order a high speed motor from Code 3. Any other motor you buy must have a particular RPM. Good luck finding the right one.

Changing the worm gear will probably mess up the mesh between the worm and the drive gear, and bind up.

Least trouble and least chance of error - order from Code 3. Then you know you've got it right.

Just swap the worm gear out. I wouldn't mess with the motor.

worm gears done affect anything. the rotator gear wont mesh at all with a different pitch worm gear, plus they dont make replacement different pitch gears.

All they do for higher speed is a lower voltage motor, 9 volt makes it spin faster with 12 is applied

At any voltage, you can buy motors with many different RPMs, so you need to know what the RPM is that you need the motor to spin at, in order to turn the reflector at a certain flash rate. Code 3's 9 volt motor will probably not be the same RPM as a Radio Shack 9 volt motor. This could either spin the reflector way too fast, or way too slow. You never know, though, you may get lucky.

Way more complicated than just walking into a Radio Shack and purchasing a replacement motor. A few have suggested going back to the manufacture of the light and getting the correct motor. It may cost a bit more but you'll know you have something that will bolt in. Might even come with the worm attached. Buying a random motor, at the minimum your going to have to make sure the length of the motor fits, the diameter fits, it has proper cooling, the shaft is the correct length and diameter, etc... Buy the correct factory motor and save yourself the headache of hoping you got the right one and hoping it doesn't fail you when you need it the most.

NOT true. It depends on the era of Dashlaser you have. The early version used different worm gears on the motor to determine the speed. Newer versions use the different voltage motors. Post a pic and I'll tell you which one you have.
