Early Generation AeroDynic

I just picked this up in trade, I have just about everything needed in order to complete but will be doing some research before I begin.

I know this is very early in the production cycle, and some items that are the norm in later revisions are not the same here.

Endlamps, Alleys, and Rotators are all early Generation. Frame is unpainted on the inside, but grille is not original, and bulkhead probably not either.

Did early gen Aeros have bulkhead mirrors for Alleys?

Flasher installed is a Whelen headlight flasher which is blasphemy in an AeroDynic.. kill it with fire!!!

The speaker grille is of the later, revised design. The original Aerodynic speaker grille design looks like this:

As far as I know, yes, Aerodynics with alley lights always had bulkhead mirrors.

figured, the bulkheads on this bar do not have the holes for them.

Hi,

I wasn't sure if I should say anything, because early Aerodynic was a long time ago....

But I recall seeing these when they were brand new (and we were installing them on new vehicles) and do not recall any bulkhead mirrors. I recall them looking exactly like the one in your pictures there.

Stan,
The Aerodynic almost universally had the bulkhead mirrors on any bars with the A or alley option. My question was did the Gen 1 bars do so, looking at the parts diagrams I have it appears that the answer is yes it had the mirrors.

In my case the bulkhead on this bar does not have the holes to install the bulkhead mirrors. So I would need to replace the whole assembly.

I have managed to strip everything down to the base components. Next up is a good clean and degreasing, then I need to debubba some wiring as the bar seems to have some dead shorts.

I pulled that whelen headlight flasher off this thing.. appears to be a model 01-0264228-00 E
its definitely newer looks like a build date of 10/2010

Build date of 10/2010 for the flasher or the Aerodynic?

I was reading the tag on that Whelen headlight flasher.

belt on this bar is abit crispy. need to replace. see if amazon still has them.

Just making sure as there are plenty of people who have put together light bars and beacons using whatever spare parts they can find, thus creating vintage warning equipment that is not really vintage.

That's where this one is gonna end up. I have most of the correct parts for this revision, but not all. Gearbox will be of a newer style and the motor.. obviously. I am replacing with a bulkhead that has alley mirrors, not sure if I am gonna keep the short amount of factory wiring or replace with a generic wire harness.

and the beat goes on.. replaced the belt and now I can't find my OG speaker Grille.. it never ends.

For those looking for a belt...

240XL025 - Timing Belt, XL, 0.25 x 24in PL, T120 is the correct belt. just an FYI.

Spent most of the day tearing through boxes on my hunt, cannibalized some other parts Aero's for little things here and there.. I don't think I am going to repaint the bottom of this frame. Gives it character..

found a 1st gen speaker grille hiding in a random box... woohoo!

I have managed to isolate and correct the dead shorts, now I am cleaning parts as I reassemble. Its taking longer then normal as I have had to re-tap some of the holes in the frame for one reason or another. Its getting there, thinking about flash patterns was planning on slow SAFE.. I think its 12,8,4,0X0,4,8,12 I was gonna test to see if I like it before I secure everything down.

It's coming along.. There are literally 10 screws just holding down the speaker bulkhead. Let's hope I don't need to take it apart again anytime soon.

And I jinxed it.. I had to replace the outer rotator on the passenger side as the gear was worn down too much. I forgot that there is some play on these bars when you loosen the rotators and the idlers to allow for some very minor adjustment in spacing. Its all good now.. and its getting there.

It was a nice day out.. so outside getting some sun.
